Only doing October

Constitutional - 1
Democrat - 37
Green - 2
Independent - 8
Libertarian - 1
Other - 3
Republican - 8
Socialist - 10

In a House of 70, there's a Democratic majority of 5 over all other parties. Socialists form the Opposition.

The person who has given me the most recommendations and will therefore dragged to the Speakers Chair is Nathan.

Constitutional - 1 (0)
Democrat - 27 (-10)
Green - 2 (0)
Independent - 13 (5)
Libertarian - 0 (-1)
Other - 6 (+3)
Republican - 5 (-3)
Socialist - 16 (6)

Democrats remain the largest party but lose their majority.

The person who has given me the most recommendations and will therefore dragged to the Speakers Chair is, I think, Cathcon.

I've been keeping to this evetry six months!

October 2020

Constitutional - 1 (0)
Democrat - 44 (17)
Green - 3 (1)
Independent - 8 (-5)
Libertarian - 0 (-1)
Other - 2 (-4)
Republican - 6 (1)
Socialist - 16 (-10)

Democratic majority of 18. Making some 17 gains at the expense of the Socialists dropping 10 and the Independents dropping 5. No clear front runner for Speaker.

Early Elections!

March 2021

Constitutional - 0 (-1)
Democrat - 29 (-15)
Green - 5 (2)
Independent - 3 (-5)
Libertarian - 0 (-)
Other - 1 (-1)
Republican - 7 (1)
Socialist - 25 (9)

Big swing from Democrat to Socialist. Socialists/Greens form minority government ousting the Democrats for the first time.

September 2021.

Constitutional - 0 (-)
Democrat - 27 (-2)
Green - 2 (-3)
Independent - 16 (13)
Libertarian - 2 (2)
Other - 10 (9)
Republican - 4 (-3)
Socialist - 9 (-16)

Socialist collapse with Independent and Other surge. Democratic minority government...again.

Massive increase in the House of Commons since the February 2020 elections, thanks to electoral reform caused by now-leader of the opposition Abdullah:
Democratic – 39 (▲18)
Independent – 30 (▲22)
Republican– 19 (▲10) (including 5 RINOs who caucus with Democrats)
Socialist – 7 (---)
Other – 4 (▲2)
Green – 1 (▼2)
Libertarian – 1 (---)

Prime Minister Ferguson97 is currently in negotiations with Leader of the Socialist Party Alfred F. Jones to form a coalition, as a Democratic-RINO-Socialist coalition has a total of 51 seats, just enough for a majority.

EDIT: West_Midlander rec'd one of my posts while I was making this, screwing Ferguson's path to a majority. Too bad.

1. I am counting S019 as a Democrat despite his sporting a GOP avatar, since he professes to, in reality, be a centre-left Democrat from New Jersey.
2. I will also NOT be tabulating any recommendations by Abdullah (sorry) since that will skew the results in favour of independent voters.
3. I will be tabulating each recommendation as one vote, so if one person recommends, say, 5 of my votes, and they are a Democrat, then that counts as 5 (not one) votes for Democrats.
4. I will be putting both raw votes and percentage of total votes for each party.
5. I will not be weighting my posts in any way.
6. Lastly, I will only be viewing the last 400 of my posts, as I believe they would be fairly representative of all my posts.

So here are the results given my 6 above rules, requirements, restrictions and regulations:
73 Democratic recommends (47.71%)
41 Republican recommends (26.80%)
20 Independent recommends (13.07%)
9 Socialist recommends (5.88%)
5 Other recommends (3.27%)
3 Libertarian recommends (1.96%)
2 NO AVATAR recommends (both from JM1295)

New elections! And a huge turnaround! I took my last 100 posts or around last month. A popular referendum has forced a reduction in the size of Parliament.

Battista Minola's 6th Parliament - October 2021

Battista Minola's Senate:

Democratic - 25 (31.2%) - ▼11 (▼0.4%) Leader: Alcibiades
Independent - 14 (17.5%) - ▼3 (▲2.6%) Leader: Scott
Socialist - 13 (16.2%) - ▼4 (▲1.3%) Leader: discovolante
Other - 11 (13.7%) - ▼5 (▼0.4%) Leader: Cath
Republican - 9 (11.3%) - ▼5 (▼1%) Leader: RFayette
Green - 6 (7.5%) - ▼1 (▲1.4%) Leader: Hashemite
Constitution - 1 (1.3%) - (--) (▲0.4%) Leader: wxtransit
No avatar - 1 (1.3%) - ▼2 (▼1.3%) Leader: Georg Ebner
[Libertarian exits Parliament - ▼3 ▼2.6%]

Total seats - 80 [▼34]

Battista Minola's Chamber of Deputies:

Socialist - 54 (27.7%) - ▼9 (▲9.1%) Leader: Nathan & Antonio V
Democratic - 51 (26.1%) - ▼51 (▼4%) Leader: Clarko95
Republican - 26 (13.3%) - ▼6 (▲3.9%) Leader: Joseph Cao
Independent - 22 (11.3%) - ▼22 (▼1.7%) Leader: Lechasseur
Other - 20 (10.3%) - ▼51 (▼10.6%) Leader: shua
Green - 16 (8.2%) - (--) (▲3.5%) Leader: Ishan
No avatar - 5 (2.6%) - ▲1 (▲1.4%) Leader: N/A (Georg Ebner acts as a caretaker)
Constitution - 1 (0.5%) - ▼1 (▼0.1%) Leader: N/A (wxtransit acts as a caretaker)
[Libertarian exits Parliament - ▼5 ▼1.5%]

Total seats - 195 [▼144]

This election was an even bigger political earthquake than the previous one. For the first time ever, the Democrats did not win the popular vote! Narrowly beaten by the Socialists in the Chamber, ending their so very long period of dominance. This, however, does not apply to the Senate, where the new electoral law, which favours parties which are already large, kept the Dems afloat. An energetic campaign primarily orchestrated by Antonio V brought the Socialists to (partial) victory, stealing the thunder of the Other Party in terms of appeal to 'tired' voters, as the latter squandered its sudden popularity and crashed back to its usual tenth. The Greens also picked up some of that and managed to post a relatively impressive result. And for your favourite storyline, the former Independent Party leader is still serving his sentence while the former Republican Party leader is free again and has returned quietly as a backbencher.

The Socialist Party now has a mandate, but the strong divergence between the two chambers is surely going to force an unwieldy coalition again. The end result is that, in pure "Japanese non-LDP governments" style, both branches of government assemble a Socialist/Independent/Republican/Green majority, with a mild program focused on social cohesion. The Others don't take part for various reasons, most importantly that they just halved their votes. And the Democrats for the first time sit in the opposition!

My next Congress will arrive sometime...

Independents ally with the left due to PSOL's leadership and a general left-leaning majority. This is much to the chagrin of many right-leaning members of the party, however so many of them have changed avatar colors at this point, not much protest can be made.

khuzifenq's defection to the Democratic Party from the Green Party leaves only a handful of Green Party representatives left in the National Assembly.

No recommendations have been nullified for in my nation we practice democracy. ;)

S019's Parliament

November 2021 Elections (All 150 seats up in the House of Commons)

Democrats (Leader: Utah Neoliberal (UT)): 69 seats, 46%
Independents (Leader: Abdullah (FL)): 46 seats, 30.7%
Republicans (Leader: Christian (MA)): 12 seats, 8%
Socialists (Leader: swf541 (MD): 11 seats, 7.3%
Other (Leader: Beesley (UK) ): 4 seats, 2.7%
Libertarian (Leader: lfromnj (NJ) ): 2 seats, 1.3%
Constitution (Leader: AMB (MA)): 2 seats, 1.3%
Green (Leader: Donerail (CA)): 1 seat, 0.7%
Crossbench: 3 seats, 2%
Gracile
Spectator
Four-Eyed Rick

Democratic Leader Utah Neoliberal opted against a coalition with the left-wing socialists, and opted for a more dominant coalition with the centrist Independent party. While several MPs in the party oppose the move, the center-left faction has grown dominant in the party and is widely expected to approve the deal, paving the way for Independence leader Abdullah to become Deputy Prime Minister. As the leader of the Republicans, the largest opposition party, Christian Man will sit as Leader of the Most Loyal Opposition, despite a weak opposition bloc.

Without further ado, the confidence vote:

AYE: 112

Democrats: 69
Independents: 40
Crossbench (Gracile and Spectator): 2
Greens: 1

NAY: 23

Republicans: 12
Independents: 6
Libertarian: 2
Constitution: 3

ABSTAIN: 16

Socialists: 11
Other: 4
Crossbench (Four Eyed Rick): 1

The confidence vote passed by a large margin, with both the Socialists and the Other Party choosing to exercise a two-line whip to abstain on the confidence vote. Despite the three-line whip exercised by the independent party, 6 of the party's conservative MPs chose to go against the whip, raising speculation that they could be de-selected at the next election. The Constitution and Libertarian parties also exercised three line-whips on the confidence vote as did the Democrats and the Republicans.

The new government is popular among voters, however the Independents have begun to bleed some of their more conservative voters, while the Socialists have begun to gain among more left-wing Democrats, who had hoped that now-Prime Minister Utah Neolib would have more aggressively reached out to the left. Meanwhile voters on the right are in utter dismay as the Republicans nearly placed behind the Socialists, showing that the country is headed on a massive swing leftward, meaning that next time the Democrats may not have the choice to join with the Independents....

The Congress of Midland aka The House of Delegates
86/171 seats for a majority
Republican: 82 (+50)
Abdullah's Midland Party: 33 (+13)
Populist-Conservative Front: 12 (-15)
The Democrats: 11 (-8)
Socialist: 6 (new)
Scott's Party: 5 (new)
Tim Turner's Party: 2 (-1)
Conservative: 2 (new)
The Beeslyites: 2 (new)
Midland Green Party: 1 (-1)
Constitution: 1 (new)
The Libertarians: 1
Independents: 14 (+3)

Party Key:

Parties named after individuals: Pro-party leader "personality cults" following that person's ideology

NOTE: The Conservatives are a personality cult of fhtagn, often called Fhtagn's Conservative Party as an attack or in informal settings; Likewise, the Constitution Party is a right-wing party dominated by its lone member Mr. Reactionary

The Populist-Conservative Front The party lacks a very unified platform, providing a home for cultural conservatives and unaligned populists. The party is mixed economically including on healthcare.

Sprouts, The Pieman, ShadowOfTheWave and Big Abraham were re-elected as PCF members. Fmr. PM LT was also re-elected to his seat along with a small caucus of four. Fmr. Party Leader, and Party Deputy Leader in the last election, Thunder98 was re-elected and leads a caucus of two.

ChristianMan faced criticism from PCF members due to switching to the Republicans and joining the party as its Deputy Leader. ChristianMan left the party while serving as its leader but saw greater political success and influence after joining the Republican Party.

Thunder98 stepped into the role of Interim Party Leader through the November 2021 elections and LT returned as the party's leader following the elections. Thunder98 continued as the party Deputy Leader.

The PCF saw significant losses with ChristianMan's departure to the Republicans. The GregTheGreat-ChristianMan leadership of the Republicans solidified that party's new role as a majority-populist party. The Republicans had previously been headed by moderates and conservatives jointly until center-right populist GregTheGreat came to lead that party and became Prime Minister in the last election.

Russian Bear, a former Independent, leads a caucus of two and became the Party Whip for the PCF after the November 2021 elections. Dark Horse was another former Independent elected as a PCF member in November 2021.

The PCF welcomed some new blood to its ranks but old leadership continued to dominate the party. In the majority-populist country of Midland, a shift to populism by the Republicans removed a strategic advantage that the PCF had had.

Midland Green Party: The Midland Green Party is a left-wing green party led by Lourdes.

The Democrats: Khuzifenq and Alex became co-leaders of the party. Beaver2.0, UtahNeolib, darklordoftech, and TiltsareUnderrated were re-elected and Astatine, MATTROSE94, and jimmie were elected to the House.

The Republicans is a generic center-right to right-wing big-tent party with a populist faction. Since GregTheGreat rose to the leadership, the Republicans are a majority-populist party.

Former party leader Conservatopia remained in the House and continued to hold clout over his small caucus (3 members total). PiT and PQG were re-elected to the House and PQG helped two allies to be elected alongside her (she controls that small caucus of three). PM GregTheGreat was re-elected to the House and ChristianMan became the party's Deputy Leader. Muaddib was re-elected to the House.

ChristianMan controls a large caucus of loyalists (28 caucus members) constituting over 34% of the party's elected members. PM GregTheGreat leads a caucus of thirty-nine in addition to being the party leader. He holds influence over 48% of party members including himself and his party won 48% of seats to the House in November 2021.

Other party members who were elected to the House include Fmr. PM Cao, Del Tachi and TheReckoning. THG was elected to the House and leads a caucus of two and RFayette controls a caucus of three.

PQG is the Party Chair for Outreach, Fmr. Party Leader Conservatopia is the Party Conference Chair and RFayette is the party whip.

The Libertarians: Right-libertarian party led by lfromnj

Socialist: The left-wing to far-left Socialist Party saw a resurgance in November 2021. AverageFoodEnthusiast is the party leader and H. Ross Peron, morgieb, and SWE are also members.

Independents: Spark, Forumlurker, BabyAlligator, LBJer, Grumps, Mr. X, Koopa, and WB were elected as Independents. Some of these members had the support of one or more parties for their House bids. BigSerg and The Pieman are Independents who caucus with the PCF.

The Results

Voter turnout surged as the House increased to 171 seats from 115 seats in the last election. Abdullah's Midland Party saw some gains and the Republicans saw big gains as the Democrats and the PCF fell into decline.

The Republicans easily formed a coalition of 96 seats with the PCF (including the two Independents that caucus with the PCF). GregTheGreat had secured a second term as Prime Minister and ChristianMan, the former leader of the PCF, had to leave the office of deputy PM.

ChristianMan faced a double-edged sword when it came to the election results. He had left the rapidly declining PCF and became Deputy PM of the largest party in Midland which almost won an outright majority in November 2021. His influence and the number of House members in his caucus/under his direct influence increased greatly but he also had to leave the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister. This Office had allowed ChristianMan to serve as the chamber's presiding officer when the Prime Minister was absent visiting his constituency, various parts of Midland, or making visits abroad. The Deputy PM, however, made some international visits in coordination with the PM.

PCF Leader LT, who was the Prime Minister of Midland for several terms, became the Deputy PM. The PCF retained 4/15 cabinet posts (having previously held five under ChristianMan).

Fmr. PM Abdullah retained his position as Leader of the Opposition.

The Upstate Congress aka The National Assembly

I did this tally a few days ago but 1. I don't think it's changed that much and 2. I don't care enough to go back and do it again.

Upper House: (individual likes)

Smilo Party: 38%
New Left: 21%
National Conservatives: 12%
Independents: 12%
Liberals: 7%
Old Left: 5%
Christian Conservatives: 2%

Lower House: (unique posters)

New Left: 27%
National Conservatives: 20%
Smilo Party: 18%
Independents: 16%
Old Left: 11%
Liberals: 7%
Christian Conservatives: 2%

The traditional ruling party in Mopolis is the anti-ideological Smilo Party, which in alliance with the National Conservatives and the Christian Conservatives makes up a very slim majority in the Upper House of parliament. However, the up-and-comers are clearly the New Left, who in alliance with the Liberals and the Independents promise to wash away "business as usual" in a wave of liberalization. This coalition makes up exactly 50% of the Lower House, and would have a respectable majority if its leaders could convince the Old Left to join in. The debate raging among the New Left alliance is how much power it's willing to leave entrenched in the hands of labor unions, which benefit greatly from the old way of doing things. For their part the Old Left is split as well, between an older generation that maintains its grudge against New Left schismatics, and a younger generation that's more interested in leveraging its party's relevance. No one doubts that how this dispute is resolved will have a tremendous impact on the country's future.

The left faced token opposition from the right in this election. In fact, some observers say that the left-leaning parties were more bent on destroying each other. This ultimately proved to not help the right in this election, amidst controversy when the party leader Fah Taggin praised Mussolini and said that Francisco Franco is in Heaven.

Even with no party having achieved a majority, the left cleaned up in this election. khuzifenq and Western Democrat have agreed to serve as Deputy Prime Ministers. The Religious Rainbow Coalition, which just weeks ago was within inches of winning a plurality in Parliament, massively under-performed expectations despite the country's religious bent. Deputies Prime Minister khuzifenq and Western Democrat have agreed to allow the RRC into their caucus.

The only left-leaning party that will not be part of the next government is the Red Bloc, which both Democrats and Progressives have deemed as radical.

Santander.

Green: The green conservative fhtagn and Lourdes ran against each other as the two major candidates in the Green Party primary but no candidate received a majority of delegates. Lord Halifax, who also ran for the nomination, endorsed Lourdes on the second round and fhtagn registered as an "Independent Green."

*Parties named for an individual are typically personality cults that follow the ideology of the party leader

Notes
Midland again saw record turnout and the Congress was expanded to 253 seats.

Many candidates, both new and old, ran for office and some political upsets occurred during the campaign.

The Republicans saw losses in the general election. The Republicans, dominated by populists, have a lot of overlap with the PCF. The Democrats and Libertarians saw massive gains in this election. Also, the Constitution Party, under the leadership of Mr. Reactionary made huge gains. Opposition Leader and former PM Abdullah and his party made large gains in this election as well. The PCF reversed losses in the last election and made the most gains of any party. Despite losses, PM GregTheGreat returned to power under a three-party coalition of the Republicans, the PCF, and Mr. Reactionary's Constitution Party.

Went back to November 10 to get a 750-seat parliament (over 279 posts).

Socialist Party: 181 (+10)
 - Revolutionary Faction: 17
 - Primitivist Faction: 15
 - Social Democratic Faction: 107
 - Communitarian Faction: 42

Green Party: 37 (+16)
 - Leftist Faction: 36
 - Conservative Faction: 1

Democratic Party: 257 (-112)
 - Progressive Faction: 169
 - Liberal Faction: 85
 - Conservative Faction: 3

Others: 76 (+18)
 - Leftist Faction: 17
 - Progressive Faction: 24
 - Unaligned: 33
 - Conservative Faction: 2

Independents: 143 (+58)
 - Leftist Faction: 24
 - Progressive Faction: 83
 - Liberal Faction: 14
 - Unaligned: 19
 - Conservative Faction: 3

Unknown: 6 (-5)
 - Progressive Faction: 1
 - Conservative Faction: 5

Libertarian Party: 16 (+8)
 - Libertarian Faction: 12
 - Leftist Faction: 2
 - Unaligned: 2

Republican Party: 32 (+5)
 - Conservative Faction: 20
 - Communitarian Faction: 5
 - Neoliberal Faction: 2
 - Progressive Faction: 3
 - Unaligned: 2

Constitution Party: 2 (-1)

Democrats suffered a major setback, falling from almost half of the seats to barely a third as the distance from the US election and the mounting failures of the Biden administration encouraged more heterodox thoughts. Some of these losses benefited the left, with the Green Party in particular almost doubling its representation while the Socialists also added a few seats. This leaves the organized leftist presence in parliament at 29%, its highest result to date. Similarly, the right-wing opposition also added a dozen seats, allowing them to rack up a total of 50. The biggest gains by far went to independents and minor parties, which gained 76 seats to represent a total of 219, just 1 seat ahead of the leftist block. Of course, many of these independent and minor party figures are themselves ideologically aligned to either the leftist parties or the Democrats, which is very likely to influence government formation.

Adding to the contingents of Socialists and Greens, 41 independents and minor party members are ideological leftists, and those plus a few left-libertarians (but excluding a right-wing Green) brings the contingent of ideological leftists to 260, over a third of the Assembly. If these leftists work together, they can be on an even footing with the Democratic party's 257 seats. However, Democrats themselves are internally divided between a progressive wing, ideologically amiable to a broadly social-democratic agenda, and a more moderate wing skittish about massive social programs. Both wings can find ideological allies among independents and minor parties, but the progressives are especially well positioned on this front. Overall, the 169 progressive Democrats can count on 111 ideological allies from outside the party, bringing their total numbers to 280 and making them the ideological cornerstone of this Assembly. Liberals, meanwhile, can only bring their total strength to 99. Finally, there are 56 representatives whose ideological alignments are ambiguous or idiosyncratic, and 55 right-leaning ones (including right-libertarians and right-communitarians).

In such a fragmented political situation, government formation would be difficult, but the only faction in the position to pull it off would have to be the progressive Democrats. While a coalition agreement with the Socialists would be the most likely to guarantee political stability, such a deal would be likely to splinter the Democrats internally, as the liberal faction would resent their influence. Instead, they are likely to prefer a minority government supported by progressives and liberals from outside the main party. Such a government would have an incredibly slim 379-seat majority, meaning that just 5 members could potentially topple it. On the other hand, it could likely be able to find support for its policies, alternatively, from the leftist parties or from the more ideologically unaligned members.

Prime Minister: Fubart Solman (Dem)
Deputy Prime Minister: Runeghost (Dem)

Leader of the Opposition: Alfred F. Jones (Soc)

Socialist Party Floor Leader: Nathan
Green Party Floor Leader: Estrella & Lord Halifax (co-chairs)
Democratic Party Floor Leader: Khuzifenq
Others Caucus Floor Leader: Skunk
Independent Caucus Floor Leader: Abdullah
Unknown Affiliation Caucus Floor Leader: Grumps
Libertarian Party Floor Leader: Ilfromnj
Republican Party Floor Leader: Conservatopia
Constitution Party Floor Leader: Cassius

In addition, I have added an upper house for which each recommended post gets just one seat (so strongly reducing the outsize weight that a bunch of 15+ recommend posts have on these numbers). The way the seat gets assigned is based on who I estimate to be the "median" recommender, although in some cases I had to make arbitrary choices about who counted as the "median". The result is a 173-member Senate. However, it has no impact on confidence and supply, and can only delay passage of legislation.

Socialist Party: 35
 - Revolutionary Faction: 1
 - Social Democratic Faction: 24
 - Communitarian Faction: 8
 - Primitivist Faction: 2

Green Party: 5
 - Leftist Faction: 5

Democratic Party: 77
 - Progressive Faction: 56
 - Liberal Faction: 21

Others: 16
 - Leftist Faction: 2
 - Progressive Faction: 8
 - Unaligned: 6

Independents: 34
 - Leftist Faction: 3
 - Progressive Faction: 27
 - Liberal Faction: 1
 - Unaligned: 2
 - Conservative Faction: 1

Unknown: 2
 - Progressive Faction: 1
 - Conservative Faction: 1

Libertarian Party: 3
 - Libertarian Faction: 3

Republican Party: 1
 - Conservative Faction: 1

Constitution Party: 0

This Senate is unlikely to give the Democratic minority government much trouble - indeed, they might wish they had to answer to it instead of the lower house. They already control almost 45% of the seats by themselves, and support from progressives not aligned with major parties brings their total contingent to 114, nearly a two-thirds majority. Indeed, progressives don't even need the liberals for a majority here, as they have 92 seats by themselves. So we can expect Government legislation to sail smoothly in the Senate, even as it faces bitter wrangling in the Assembly.

I need to start throwing out even more recommends than I already do or I'll never be the PM of any of these parliaments.

My problem is that I gathered data and then ran out of time to run the results and make up a story. I guess it makes sense with me being Californian with how long we take to count votes lol.

New elections! For Christmas! After the unwieldy previous parliament. I took my last 100 posts or around last month.

Battista Minola's 7th Parliament - Christmas 2021

Battista Minola's Senate:

Democratic - 21 (26.2%) - ▼4 (▼5%) Leader: KaiserDave
Independent - 14 (17.5%) - (--) (--) Leader: Scott
Socialist - 13 (16.2%) - (--) (--) Leader: discovolante & General Mung Beans
Other - 10 (12.5%) - ▼1 (▼1.2%) Leader: Cath
Republican - 8 (10%) - ▼1 (▼1.3%) Leader: Joseph Cao
Green - 5 (6.3%) - ▼1 (▼1.2%) Leader: Hashemite
Libertarian - 4 (5%) - ▲4 (▲5%) Leader: lfromnj
No avatar - 4 (5%) - ▲3 (▲3.7%) Leader: Georg Ebner
Constitution - 1 (1.3%) - (--) (--) Leader: TJ

Total seats - 80 [--]

Battista Minola's Chamber of Deputies:

Independent - 48 (26.1%) - ▲26 (▲14.8%) Leader: Progressive Realist
Democratic - 46 (25%) - ▼5 (▼1.1%) Leader: S019
Socialist - 40 (21.7%) - ▼14 (▼6%) Leader: Nathan & Antonio V
Other - 21 (11.4%) - ▲1 (▲1.1%) Leader: Heat
Republican - 11 (6%) - ▼15 (▼7.3%) Leader: AustralianSwingVoter
Green - 6 (3.3%) - ▼10 (▼4.9%) Leader: Donerail
No avatar - 6 (3.3%) - ▲1 (▲0.7%) Leader: Ishan
Libertarian - 5 (2.7%) - ▲5 (▲2.7%) Leader: Santander
Constitution - 1 (0.5%) - (--) (--) Leader: N/A (TJ acts as a caretaker)

Total seats - 184 [▼11]

The previous coalition followed a strange course, becoming quickly perceived as almost exclusively a Socialist/Independent affair, the latter party in particular exploiting well its Senate leverage. It rescrambled perceptions of the establishment, levels of engagement, and what it meant to support the status quo. Its fall is blamed on the Socialists and the consequence is a massive surge for the Independents, helped a little by the long-awaited release of Abdullah and a lot by a new sharp, charismatic leader, Progressive Realist. Reinventing themselves once again and playing the role of the insider-insurgent, they overtake everyone to be the third different party topping the Chamber poll in the last three elections. The Senate is still won by the Democrats, the only good thing that can be said about a party which struggled through a term in opposition and kept losing votes in both chambers. Socialists lost significantly for the reasons already alluded to, even if in absolute terms they did fairly well. The polarization of government supporters around one party also caused huge losses to the Greens, now more than ever seen as ersatz Independents, and especially to the Republicans, further troubled by some of their voters disliking the coalition and moving on to revive the Libertarian Party. Finally, the Other Party watches from its 10%-worthy ivory tower as usual.

The unprecedented level of fracture and the system that makes the Senate impervious to wild swings make the Independents' path pretty difficult in spite of their incredible victory. What happens is the return of partially split control. In the Chamber of Deputies, they "forgive" the Socialists and get an Independent/Socialist/Green majority. In the Senate, the impulse to act as if nothing happened is even stronger, motivated by their weaker position, and the majority gets expanded to an absurdist Independent/Socialist/Republican/Green/Non-inscrits. All to keep the Democrats out...

Previous Election

The future looked good for Kuumostan as the country largely recovered from the pandemic. The Democratic President succeeded in passing most of his agenda with Democratic, Socialist, and Green support. Even the formal granting of statehood to a few then-territories and subsequent re-apportionment of Senate and Assembly seats largely proceeded as planned. Increasingly out of touch with his voter base and with his caucus, the Republican Senate leader S019 switched to the Democratic Party after losing the Republican Senate leadership election. The smooth sailing for the governing majority would not last, however. When trying to reform the healthcare system and national tax policy a few months later, the Democratic/Socialist coalition collapsed due to fundamental disagreements between Democratic and Socialist legislators. The previously high approvals of the Democratic President and legislative leaders began to fall dramatically. Desperate to reverse this trajectory, the Democratic leaders made a deal with the Green Party to bring back their governing majority. This was truly a last-resort solution as the Green Party was essentially in a civil war between the socially liberal, pro-nuclear wing led by khuzifenq and the anti-nuclear, anti-immigration wing led by Hades. Khuzifenq saw his chance to retain relevance and demanded that he be given co-leadership of the Democratic Senate caucus in exchange for his supporters in the Green Party backing the Democratic legislative agenda. After weeks of negotiations, Teflon Joe and KaiserDave agreed to the deal. After the announcement of the new majority coalition Hades gave a speech accusing the President, khuzifenq, and various other Democratic, Green, and Socialist members of government of being secret communists. This caused the Green Party to fall even further in the polls than at the beginning of the intra-party battle. The remaining Greens who refused to join the majority coalition felt that they had no choice but to remove Hades from leadership in a vote of no confidence.

Meanwhile, the Independents in the Legislature faced an internal struggle of their own due to their controversial and polarizing leader Abdullah. Due to the ideologically diverse nature of the Independents, many members were frequently at odds with each other due to disagreement on various important issues. Abdullah, with his eccentric combination of views and vigorous campaigning and fundraising prowess, was one of the only things keeping them together. When Abdullah came under investigation for campaign finance violations, the fragile alliance broke apart. A group of Assembly Independents led by Scott that had long been somewhat skeptical of Abdullah announced that they would no longer be supporting him as a Legislative leader. In addition, a few of the more conservative Assembly Independents, including the Assembly party leader Lone Star Politics, announced they were switching to the Republican Party.

The minor parties under the Others banner gained a boost in the polls from voters dissatisfied with the larger, more established parties in the government. Some disgruntled right-wingers defected from the Republicans and Independents to the Constitution Party. And the true far-right reactionaries flocked to the once politically radioactive Fascist Party after its rebranding under the new party leader ultraviolet.

After the election, the Democratic Party was left with a much smaller percentage of seats in both houses and no other parties willing to form a majority coalition with it. The Abdullah loyalist Independents are also unlikely to lead the new Legislature due to their leader's unpopularity with the other parties and factions. The three Fascist officeholders are likely to be kept out of any majority coalition, and the announcement of the Constitution Party Assembly leader's indictment for tax and identity fraud has made the Constitution Party undesirable as a coalition partner. Whoever emerges as the new majority will have a very difficult job ahead of them.

Time for a new parliament, based on all the posts since making the last one. Abdullah (I-FL) barely edges out the Speakership of the House, as I'd expect, by one recommendation. Government is a tentative traffic light coalition, given the 116 seat majority, with khuzifenq (D-OR) at the helm. Nice way to close this out.

Parliament Composition

Socialist Party - 20 seats
Leader: Astatine (S-DE)
Whip: Alfred F. Jones (S-MA)

Green Party - 9 seats
Leader: Lord Halifax (G-AK)
Whip: Gallatine (G-UK)

Democratic Party - 102 seats
Leader: khuzifenq (D-OR) - Prime Minister
Whip: Zyzz (D-ON)
