My plan is to restore glory to the Constitution Party by changing to a tan avatar and recommending all of Battista’s posts

After going through all 325 of my posts, it's time for an updated version:

April 2021 Kuumostan Legislative Elections

These numbers are representative of my last 100 posts. The Senate is based on the number of unique posters, and the National Assembly is based on the absolute number of recommendations. The Senate party leaders are the posters with the most recommendations for their party while the National Assembly leaders are the posters with the second highest number of recommendations for their party.

Kuumostani Senate
All 75 seats up for election. 38 seats needed for a majority.
Democratic Party: 36 seats (Leader: Teflon Joe.)
Independents: 11 seats (Leader: Abdullah)
Republican Party: 10 seats (Leader: S019)
Green Party: 5 seats (Leader: khuzifenq)
Socialist Party: 5 seats (Leader: YE)
Others: 4 seats (Leader: Sestak)
Libertarian Party: 3 seats (Leader: lfromnj)
None: 1 seat (Leader: KB)

Kuumostani National Assembly
All 135 seats up for election. 68 seats needed for a majority.
Democratic Party: 65 seats (Leader: KaiserDave)
Independents: 20 seats (Leader: Lone Star Politics)
Republican Party: 14 seats (Leader: VAR)
Green Party: 12 seats (Leader: Hades)
Socialist Party: 12 seats (Leader: discovolante)
Others: 8 seats (Leader: Cath)
Libertarian Party: 3 seats (Leader: Santander)
None: 1 seat (Leader: KB)

The Democratic Party holds about 48% of the seats in both the National Assembly and the Senate, so they ally with the Socialist Party to form a majority coalition in both chambers.

No Labels: 1 seat (-1)
Leader:
Vacant

*contested previous election as two separate parties, SPC and TBD.

Despite the size of the House more than doubling, the incoming majority Democrats were unable to come close to the same for their own delegation, as various conservative parties along with the Greens and newly merged SMP joined the DSA and PIC as strong forces opposed to the Democrats. At President Sestak's urging, the parties who supported him - his own SMP, along with the DSA, Greens, PIC, NRP, Conservatives, Libertarians, LG, and VHCP - to form a 323 seat majority Presidential Coalition, electing SMP leader MB as Speaker. DSA leader YE became majority leader while Democratic Leader Ishan became minority leader.

Senate
179 seats. 90 needed for majority.

Democratic Party: 85 seats (+20)
Leader: Tack

Democratic Socialist Alliance: 24 seats (+11)
Leader: morgieb

Sestak Monarchist Party: 15 seats (+9*)

Leader: Thunder98

Libertarian Party: 5 seats (+5)
Leader: Santander

Republicans for Social Democracy: 3 seats (-)
Leader: kongress

League of Grill: 2 seats (-2)
Leader: DTC

VISION HCP: 1 seat (-1)
Leader: HCP

No Labels: 1 seat (-1)
Leader: Skill and Chance

The Senate elections did not fare quite as badly for the Democrats, though they did still fall short of the majority. The crossbench factions, led by the MLP, would hold the balance of power. Initially, it seemed that the Democrats would remain in the plurality with 85 seats to the Presidential coalition's 84. However, Senate RSD leader - despite his party being outside of the Presidential coalition in the House - opted to coalition with it, giving it 87 seats to the Democrats' 85, with 7 seats on the crossbench. Thus DSA leader morgieb became Plurality Leader and incoming Democratic Leader Tack the Minority Leader. The Senate is thought to be the main roadblock against the passage of much of the President's agenda.

As always only last 100 posts. And as always S019 counted as a red avatar, not a meme blue avatar.

7th Tack Congress of Deputies (150 seats, 76 for a majority)

Democratic: 63 (+9) (Leader: Alcibiades)
Independent: 28 (+9) (Leader: Abdullah)
Other: 16 (+3) (Leader: ltomlinson)
Republican: 14 (-4) (Leader: Conservatopia)
Socialist: 12 (+5) (Leader: AverageFoodEnthusiast)
Green: 9 (+5) (Leader: khuzifenq)
Libertarian: 4 (-7) (Leader: lfromnj)
Constitution: 3 (+3) (Leader: Sunrise)
No avatar: 1 (+1) (Leader: FourEyedRick)

More population growth means a bigger parliament

In one of the biggest twists in politics, shortly before the election the sitting PM, Khuzifenq, announced he was leaving the Democrats and joining the tiny Green Party. The Democrats managed to keep growing at a slow but steady rate, basically staying where they were last time under their new leader Alcibiades.

Meanwhile the Green Party, now the party of a reasonably popular PM but with not great infrastructure, also saw quite a bit of success, doubling their representation in parliament.

The final party of the left, the Socialist Party, also saw good growth, led by the obscure backbencher in AverageFoodEnthusiast. They had a very policy focused campaign that worked very well on this less polarized environment

Less polarization also benefited very well the moderates in the Independent Party, led by charismatic Abdullah, which this time did not have any competition and cruised to a very easy 2nd place

In third place came this time the Other Party, which saw a radical shift to the left after their jump right under Big Abraham, who got a mediocre result. This time their new leader, the charismatic ltomlinson, managed to energize some of the left better than the very subdued Alcibiades, and their new left wing campaign worked quite well to get votes.

It was a tough night for the Republican party in 4th, which after a moderate campaign, banked down on more polarization under Conservatopia and failed miserably. They were also reacting to the rise of a new, more competent Constitution party, and failed to stop them from getting seats.

The worst night however came for the Libertarian Party, at this point almost an lfromnj personality cult, they suffered a huge election defeat after the novelty of their leader wore off

Finally the Constitution Party got in again, this time under a very conservative but very competent campaign led by Sunrise.

Oh and the No Avatars Party somehow got in. No one really knows what they stand for and the person they elected was an obscure character nobody knew much about, but hey, they got a seat.

With polarization now going down, as well as the massive jump left of the Other Party and a bit of friction with the Green Party due to the khuzifenq switch, the Democrats decided to ditch their old coalition partners in favour of a more stable coalition with just the Other Party, which gave them a majority of 3

Last 100 posts:

Alcibiades House of Commons (209 seats, 105 needed for a majority)

Democratic: 101 (Leader: TiltsAreUnderrated)
Independent: 26 (Leader: Abdullah)
Socialist: 23 (Leader: General Mung Beans)
Other: 16 (Leader: beesley)
Green: 15 (Leader: khuzifenq)
Republican: 15 (Leader: Conservatopia)
Libertarian: 6 (Leader: Santander)
No Avatar: 5 (Leader: Mondale)
Constitution: 2 (Leader: Cassius)

The inaugural election to the Alcibiades Parliament saw a distinctively British-flavoured campaign, with UK posters leading 4 of the parties, as the UK May 2021 elections dominated discussion.

The big question was whether the Democrats would be able to achieve an absolute majority. In the event, under the leadership of TiltsAreUnderrated, a policy wonk from the left of the party, they fell just 4 seats short.

The Independents were led by Abdullah, a vigorous campaigner and constant presence on the campaign trail. They put forward a largely left-of-centre slate of candidates. This resulted in an impressive second place, and cemented their position as the main home for those who don’t quite fit into the Democrats.

The Socialists won a comfortable third place. Their leader, General Mung Beans, is one of the most socially conservative members of his caucus.

The Others are probably the most ideologically diverse party, and their centrist leader beesley emerged as a compromise between the various factions. They were pleased to just pip the Greens and Republicans to fourth place.

The Greens were notable for their very international list of candidates, with ex-Democrat khuzifenq, their leader, one of only two Americans in the party.

As expected, the Republicans were not able to seriously challenge the left-of-centre consensus in Alcibiadesland, but their leader Conservatopia campaigned admirably, although his ideological extremism likely held the party back.

Libertarian leader Santander impressed with his sharpness and wit in debates, but ultimately led the party to a very disappointing result, as his ideological ambiguity failed to motivate the Libertarian base.

The No Avatars, considering their almost total lack of name recognition and routine mocking by all other parties, punched above their weight as Mondale, returning to electoral politics after a long hiatus, proved a capable leader.

The Constitution Party, in spite of leader Cassius’ rhetorical skill, were unable to overcome the fact that they have a tiny support base, as a result of Alcibiadesland’s natural centre-left lean and the Republicans being the home of most conservatives. One of two their representatives, peenie_weenie, is in fact on the left.

After initially contemplating a minority government, the Democrats ended up opting for a coalition with the Greens, and King OC appointed TiltsWorld (as he refers to him) as PM.

Key cabinet posts:
Prime Minister: TiltsAreUnderrated
Deputy Prime Minister: khuzifenq
Chancellor: S019

106-member state Duma

59 (56%) United Democrats of Crumpovena - Majority government
15 (14%) Independent Bloc - Confidence and supply
9 (8%) Crumpovenian Social Labor Party - Confidence and supply
6 (6%) Conservative People's Party - In opposition
5 (5%) United Minarchists and Libertarians - In opposition
5 (5%) Orange Star Movement - In opposition
3 (3%) Non-inscrits - In opposition
2 (2%) Green Future - In opposition
2 (2%) National Platform - In opposition

After achieving independence in 1993, Crumpovena fell into a years long civil war with accusations that the various political factions were all behaving like children. In the mid-2000s, the country was swept up in the Color Revolutions and overthrew the corrupt leadership which had taken hold during the civil war, putting a little-known former head of the Secret Police Teflon Joe/Zyzz in charge. Since taking control, however, Teflon Joe has moved to eliminate opposition and transform Crumpovena into an authoritarian state with him in charge.

The United Democrats of Crumpovena (UDC) formed to support Teflon Joe and has regularly been the dominant party of Parliament. The country still maintains a modicum of democracy with regular elections and a multi-party system. Several of the major parties are effectively puppet parties controlled by Teflon Joe in an attempt to give the appearance of democracy. In one particularly unusual case, the UDC secretly coerced a popular comedian to start the Orange Star Movement as a controlled "opposition" populist party, which includes a hodgepodge of factions, and is popular with college-age voters.

In the most recent elections, UDC won an absolute majority for the first time. However, in a surprise, Teflon Joe stepped down from his leadership role to the more ceremonial role of President. In an attempt to give the appearance of competition and cooperation between parties, the leader of the Crumpovenan Social Labor Party Alfred F. Jones has been given the role of Prime Minister under the watchful eye of Teflon Joe and his de jure "Deputy" Prime Minister ultraviolet. It is believed that rising agitation among labor union groups and fears of general strikes in opposition to increasing authoritarianism prompted the move.

Unfortunately, it seems likely Crumpovena will soon progress to a de facto one party state with increasing rumors Parliament will officially ban both the Conservative People's Party and the National Platform due to alleged ties to militia groups and "religious agitation."

Republican: 39 seats (+20): 24.8% (+13.0)
Democratic: 37 seats (-6): 23.5% (-3.2)
Other Party: 32 seats (-2): 20.4% (-0.7)
Socialist: 19 seats (-4): 12.1% (-2.2)
Independent Bloc: 14 seats (-3): 8.9% (-1.9)

Libertarian: 2 (-3): 1.3% (-1.Cool
Constitution: 0 (-12): 0.1%

The Triapartito collapses as the Republicans elect a new right-wing leader, Conservatopia, who then leads them to triumph in the resultant snap elections, with the party consolidating the right-wing vote and leapfrogging its former allies in the Democratic and Other parties to become the number one party in Cassia. The Democratic and Other parties subsequently negotiate Triapartito Mark Due with the Greens to give them a majority of one. However, in a surprising turn of events Cath announces that his conservative corrente within the Other party will refuse to support the government, leaving it once more short of an overall majority. Finally, six moderate Republicans receive bribes “reassurances on policy” and, more importantly, a share of cabinet and ministerial posts and agree to form an independent-Republican grouping within the Chamber of Deputies in support of Triapartito Mark Due, giving it a majority of 79/157 (1 seat). The Constitution party collapses completely, partly due to Conservatopia’s emergence as a standard bearer for muscular conservatism but also because of press revelations that it has in fact been acting as a front for the Cassian silage Mafia, the scourge of rural Cassia. The Silage Mafia are nonetheless able to secure representation via the newly formed, populist ‘No-Avatar Party’ and pledge to deliver a ‘good service’ for their constituents.

United Populists of Midland-UPM: Not a political party; Senate coalition made up of the AMP, LTC, TSP, and the Republicans.

News:

Seeing a huge surge in personal popularity, Senator Abdullah ran for the House (so he could stand for PM) and formed his own party.

Suffering continued unpopularity in Midland, the left sought to court left of center voters who usually supported populist Independents. Democratic House Leader khuzifenq left the party and formed the Midland Green Party. The MGP has been described as "almost identical" to the Midland Democrats, ideologically.

Thunder98 and Scott were re-elected to the Senate. Chips was elected to the Senate and Geoffrey Howe to the House.

Political newcomer (to Midland), Utah Neolib now leads the House Democrats and Bacon King leads the Senate Democrats. President Johnson is a prominent freshman Senator.

Conservatopia leads the House Republicans and SN leads the Senate Republicans. PM Cao lost a leadership challenge as PM and decided to run for Senate (and was elected). Mopolis, Fuzzy Bear, and OSR are prominent Senators.

Delegate TimTurner ran for Senate as an Independent and was reelected. Delegate Sprouts ran for the Senate as a member of the LT Coalition and was elected. The Labor Party (a sister party to the Democrats) dissolved and MB was elected to the Senate as an Independent. Beesley is an Independent delegate.

Muaddib was elected to the Senate as an Independent and Peanut, a Senator, joined the Democrats. Lfromnj and Santander are major Libertarians in Congress.

In the Senate, the AMP, TSP, LTC, and the Republicans ran on a United Populists of Midland (UPM) coalition. This coalition was called the "United Right" by politicians on the left.

The House stayed the same size and the Senate expanded by seven seats in this election. Abdullah could make a majority government if he formed a coalition with the Greens and the Democrats. However, his party and the right, together would have a large majority, even if he chooses to only seek an aid-and-supply agreement from these parties (the Republicans and the LTC).

LT, leading the Senate LTC and the UPM, broadly, can probably make a Senate majority with the support of 16-18 Senators.

My political career in these various parliaments is crazy.  It varies between single-handedly reviving once dead parties to being an unpopular and divisive leader that destroys parties through my extremism. Smiley

Congreso de la Nación Hcpeño

Cámara de Diputados
Gobierno - Todos por la justicia (256 seats)
- Partido socialista obrero hcpeño (PSOH) with 221 seats, is the current ruling party, led in the Chamber of Deputies by Prime Minister  Fubart Solman and Deputy Prime Minister (and Interior Minister) Tack. The PSOH stands for a standard centre-left ideology albeit with a more populist and somewhat radical rhetorical flair.
- Partido liberal (PL) joins the PSOH in the minority coalition government. It is led in the Chamber by Minister of Justice kongress. The party used to be a major right-wing party but has shrunk down to a special interests party for left-leaning voters who do not associate with the PSOH for aesthetic or historical reasons. It has 35 seats.

Oposición

- Coalición federal (122 seats)
-- Consenso (C) - a 50-person broadly centre-to-far-right coalition, the Consenso is led by Conservatopia, a plucky upstart who has captured the media's attention.
-- Convergència democrática (CD) - the alliance of 33 centrist and right-leaning former independents, the party has received some new support thanks to leader Abdullah's successful charm offensive throughout the campaign.
-- Democracia cristiana (DC) is the 28-member Christian Democratic party, most famous for its tragicomic leader Baptista Minola and for its stalwart denouncement of the Orangist movement.
-- Unión liberal radical (ULR) is a libertarian party led by Santander. The 11-member caucus is usually known for its troublemaking - some leading off with pithy one-liners and others with hour-long tirades.

- No más de LOCOS autoritarios (118 seats)
-- El Naranjo (N) is an unconventional centre-left party, with many accusations lobbed at the Orange Tree for its supposed ties to a cult, although officially the party is Secular. The party's rather laconic leader - ltomlinson - does little to dispel the rumors that this party with 80 seats is not aligned with cultists.
-- Lista independientes por el cambio - Nuevo día (LIPEC-ND) is a united list of left-leaning independents, with no "official" leadership or whip. However, in general, the 38-member caucus works closely with the Orange Tree as a result of prominent member Scott's friendship with several Orangists.

- Juntos ganaremos la revolución (73 seats)
-- Partido comunista de HCPistan (PCHcp) is the umbrella alliance of far-left forces in HCPistan, ranging from revisionist socialists to Stalinists. Holding together this coalition of 45 members is YE.
-- Partido ecologista hcpeño - Los verdes - Frente amplio (PEH-LV-FA) is a green-oriented leftist outlet, led by the immaculately popular and passionate khuzifenq, who commands the 28-seat alliance.

Senado

Gobierno - Todos por la justicia (73 seats)
- PSOH 71 seats, led in the Senate by Parrotguy.
- PL 2 seats, led by S019.

Oposición

- Coalición federal (42 seats)
-- C 17 seats, led by VAR.
-- CD 13 seats, led by Thumb.
-- DC 8 seats, led by Cath.
-- ULR 4 seats, led by Damocles.

- Juntos ganaremos la revolución (21 seats)
-- PCHcp  16 seats led by Truman.
-- PEH-LV-FA 5 seats led by Razze .

- No más de LOCOS autoritarios (16 seats)
-- N 10 seats, led Skunk.
-- LIPEC-ND 6 seats, unofficially led by Crane Husband.

You know how writers sometimes say "oh it wasn't me, my character decided to do it so I had to write it?" I used to think that's bullsh/t, but Estrellian politics seems to have taken on a life of its own.

See my previous post for information about the parties.

The Chamber of Representatives of the Republic of Estrellia
300 seats / 151 needed for a majority

People's Party — 132 (▲2) 44.0% (▲0.7)
Socialist Party — 52 (▼20) 17.3% (▼6.7)
Centre Alliance — 42 (▼1) 14.0% (▼0.3)
Independent Reformist Union — 26 (▼1) 8.7% (▼0.3)
The Greens — 21 (▲4) 7.0% (▲1.3)
Conservative Party — 12 (▲8) 4.0% (▲ 2.7)
Libertarians — 3 (▲2) 1.0% (▲0.7)
The Nationalists — 1 (▼1) 0.3% (▼0.4)
No affiliation — 11 (▲7) 3.7% (▲2.0)

After the last election, the PP-IRU government got off to a bad start right away when Estrellia Police initiated Operation Gombeen. Hundreds of politicians from both governing parties were arrested on charges of corruption big and small, ranging from a mayor buying traffic cones for $200 apiece from his sister's wife's (yay woke criminals!) company, to a cabinet minister embezzling all money from Fund To Make Sad Puppies Less Sad And More Happy And Also Do Other Nice Things Fund and blowing it on cocaine and hookers. When this storm blew over (though only after the largest wave of protests in Estrellia's history), things didn't get any better. The coalition kept going from scandal to scandal and from disaster to disaster, losing their majority and nearly falling apart multiple times. Unemployment and deficits soared thanks to economic mismanagement, Estrellia started multiple pointless diplomatic crises as an attempt to distract from the dumpster fire enveloping the country, the aforementioned record for largest protests in Estrellia's history was broken a couple more times, and it was a foregone conclusion that both PP and IRU would get a pasting come election...

...and then the pandemic arrived. In a government where ministers (and Prime Ministers!) changed almost daily, by a sheer stroke of luck the Ministry of Health managed to fall in the hands of someone with two brain cells to rub together. While the rest of the cabinet was busy trying to stay out of jail, the minister took charge of Estrellia's coronavirus response. He didn't exactly manage to do a New Zealand, but his handling of the pandemic was generally regarded as okay both by experts and Estrellians. When the Minister of Finance was forced to resign, he took over this post as well. His only notable action in this office was the one that would prove decisive in the next election: writing generous stimulus cheques to all citizens of Estrellia. The PP establishment very quickly realized that if the party wants to avoid electoral oblivion, they have no choice but to make The Guy Who Kept Us Safe From The Plague And Gave Everyone Free Money their leader. And so, just weeks before the election, he was made People's Party leader and Prime Minister.

Surprisingly given the rather eventful term of the outgoing government, the election produced little change:

For the People's Party, the result was mostly a sigh of relief; their disaster of a government (pre-pandemic, at least; at several points they were polling in single digits!) did not result in a significant drop in their vote - in fact, they gained two seats. But there are dark clouds on the horizon: the aforementioned scandals made them hated even in previously ambivalent parts of Estrellian society, and it's entirely possible that ~45% isn't the floor it used to be, but the ceiling.

The Socialist Party result, on the other hand, was a huge, huge disappointment. The party was the main beneficiary of PP's collapse in the polls and in midterm local elections, but as PP recovered, the Socialist wave came down as fast as it rose. They still expected to make at least some gains, though. A loss of almost 20 seats came as a shock and immediately prompted calls for resignations, and perhaps even drastic measures like renaming the party to something less scary than "Socialist" because that will obviously solve all of their structural problems.

The Centre Alliance, on the other hand, is relieved that they only lost one seat. They were unable to make their mark in opposition, and as the "Maroon Crush" swept the country, many of their voters jumped on the Socialist train. Even after it derailed, CA's leadership feared they'll switch to other parties, but ultimately enough returned for the party to get a decent result.

As for the IRU... oh, boy. You'd think that after having a majority of their caucus arrested for, among other things, masterminding the largest money laundering scheme in Estrellia's history, voters would finally kick them out of the Chamber (and ideally off a cliff), but no. The gangsters-in-chief tried to rebrand this criminal enterprise party yet again, this time into a hardcore anti-lockdown, anti-vaxxer, covid denialist group. This produced a split between 1) those who thought that they should stay a respectable front for the mafia and turning into conspiracy nutters is a step too far and 2) those whose said F/CK YEAH! Long story short - 1) joined the PP or became independent and 2) now has full control over the renewed party. This party then went on to win 26 seats because we live in a hellworld and Estrellian voters are morons.

The Greens suffered from much the same issue as Centre Alliance, but they actually managed to keep all their voters and gain some new ones. The Socialists chose to lead an uncharacteristically populist campaign and it seems that some of their middle class voters felt more comfortable voting for a party that focuses on incoherent screeching about environment and white male privilege rather than incoherent screeching about social security and brown furriners stealin arr jerbs.

Conservative Party was the winner of the night. While 12 seats is still a poor result by historical standards, they were helped by voters having pretty much forgotten the clown car crash that was the only Conservative-led government in the history of Estrellia. The key to (relative) success, though, was the decision to recruit a well-known Wessex People's Democratic Republic dissident to serve as party leader.

Libertarians seem to have become yet another refuge for anti-maskers because of course.

The Nationalists... lol.

Eleven unaffiliated candidates were elected. Unfortunately, all colourful personalities from last time round lost, and all eleven indies are products of the aforementioned split in IRU.

On election night, when it became clear that PP will be the largest party by far but will not win a majority, their leader suprised everyone by announcing that he will not seek to form a coalition, but will instead lead a minority government. An anti-PP coalition cannot be formed without support of the IRU, something which is obviously unacceptable to all concerned. It seems that PP will continue to be the natural governing party of Estrellia, at least for now...

Government

United Democratic Front (UDF) [Leader: Utah Neolib]: 36 seats

Official Opposition
Socialist People's Party (SPP) [Leader: Alfred F. Jones]: 5 seats
Progressive Independents (PI) [Leader: Scott]: 5 seats
Farmers, Naturists and Ecologist's Party (FNEP) [Leader: Farmlands]: 1 seat

Crossbench
New Independents (NI) [Leader:Abdullah]: 8 seats
Regionalist Mixed Group (RMG) [Leader: No Official Leadership]: 3 seats
Esoteric Libertarian Fascist Front (ELFF) [Leader: Santander]: 1 seat
New Conservative National Party (NCNP) [Leader: Conservatopia]: 1 seat
The Watchers (W) [Leader: Spectator]: 1 seat

The UDF is a broad, center-left to left-wing coalition led by Utah Neolib, one of the newest and most moderate members. Very popular in WBland.

The SPP is a more radical breakaway from the UDF but is not extremely radical either. Overall just a little more left-wing, not including some of the most extreme elements of the left (though many online beg to differ)
The PI is a left-wing list of independents that is most broadly described as populist, with appeal both to rural progressives and some urbanites.
The FNEP is, as the name suggests, a green party that specifically appeals both to farmers struggling with drought due to climate change, and the more urban environmentalists.

The NI are a new, moderate party led by the charismatic, yet also vague Abdullah. Somewhat conservative, the NI had success in branding themselves as the new conservatives, no longer associated with the corrupt leadership of the old parties.
The RMG is less of a party and more of an alliance with no real agenda other than job creation in their districts. How they managed to win their districts is unknown, and accusations of vote-buying have been thrown around.
The ELFF is a... very, very weird party. Their campaigning mostly occurred online, with some opponents claiming that they specifically appealed on dark net drug market sites to get votes, others say that there was voter intimidation, and yet others say that their votes came from edgy 18 year olds.
The NCNP formed from the ashes of the old Conservatives and took a more hardline stance on issues than the NI, getting them enough votes for a seat.
The Watchers are, well, a cult. Having taken over a rural area, they were able to win the district by getting their members to vote for the cult leader, simply known as "The Spectator". No one wants to associate with them, and "The Spectator" has a seat of his own away from everyone else. He says it's because he's important.

Other early elections! To commemorate June 2, the day on which the Italian Republic was born.

Again I took roughly last month, which corresponds to 150 posts or 6 pages. How my posting rate has fallen... and yet, the size of the chambers keeps increasing!

The logic of the parliamentary leaders is always the same.

Battista Minola's 4th Parliament - 2 June 2021

Battista Minola's Senate:
Democratic - 48 (40%) - (--) (▼0.7%) Leader: Alcibiades
Socialist - 17 (14.1%) - (--) (▼0.3%) Leader: SlamDunk
Independent - 14 (11.7%) - ▲2 (▲1.5%) Leader: Scott
Other - 14 (11.7%) - ▲2 (▲1.5%) Leader: parochial boy
Republican - 14 (11.7%) - ▲1 (▲0.7%) Leader: realisticidealist
Green - 6 (5%) - ▼1 (▼0.9%) Leader: Donerail
Libertarian - 3 (2.5%) - ▼2 (▼1.7%) Leader: lfromnj
No avatar - 3 (2.5%) - ▲2 (▲1.7%) Leader: Meclazine
Constitution - 1 (0.8%) - ▼2 (▼1.8%) Leader: Cassius

Total seats - 120 [▲2]

Battista Minola's Chamber of Deputies:
Democratic - 151 (36.3%) - ▼19 (▼8.7%) Leader: tack50
Independent - 80 (19.2%) - ▲32 (▲6.5%) Leader: CraneHusband
Republican - 56 (13.5%) - ▲23 (▲4.8%) Leader: N/A (realisticidealist acts as a caretaker)
Other - 50 (12%) - ▲17 (▲3.3%) Leader: Cath
Socialist - 50 (12%) - ▼4 (▼2.3%) Leader: Nathan
Green - 15 (3.6%) - ▼10 (▼3%) Leader: khuzifenq
Libertarian - 7 (1.7%) - (--) (▼0.2%) Leader: HCP
No avatar - 6 (1.5%) - ▲5 (▲1.3%) Leader: Georg Ebner
Constitution - 1 (0.2%) - ▼6 (▼1.7%) Leader: Cassius*

*he is the only Constitution recommendator I have

Total seats - 416 [▲38]

A narrative of the election:
- The Democratic Party once again is confirmed as the plurality party, but at the same time keeps sliding down, in particular with a huge blow in the Chamber of Deputies where for the first time they receive a smaller share of the vote than in the Senate. This has been attributed to various factors, like continued electorate fatigue, internal dissatisfaction about the Chamber coalition with the Independents, and an ensuing internal party struggle won by the #ELITIST side, which brings Alcibiades to the Senate caucus leadership. The Chamber one goes to tack50 instead.
- The Independent Party, to the surprise of some, emerges as the clear winner of the night, especially in the Chamber where they become by far the second party, apparently propelled by having become a new safe option for those who want a slice of the pie. However, it has emerged after the election that Abdullah, one of the leaders, greatly exceeded campaign spending limits. He therefore is exlcuded from taking a seat in this Parliament, and will have to stand trial for the violations. Scott and CraneHusband now remain leaders in two, while the future of the Abrahamic Ecumenical Council appears uncertain.
- The Republican Party also has a great night, posting their best result and overtaking Socialists and Others in the Chamber. This is partly down to RI's crossover appeal, which flips a number of populist voters previously oriented towards the Democrats, and partly down to Conservatopia's vigorous campaign... except it is found out that he also greatly exceeded spending limits and therefore it is a court trial and not a seat in Parliament that awaits him. RI on the other hand can enjoy his temporary control of two leadership posts at once.
- The Other Party gains back what it had lost last time and some more, thanks to a more focused message and Chamber leader Cath bringing out all his persuasion powers. Notably, parochial boy returns to Senate leadership.
- The Socialist Party incurs in a huge disappointment, as it does not manage to gain anything from the Democrats' big fall and actually loses seat share again. The ascendancy of the new "hardliner" wing led by SlamDunk, that actually just wants the status quo but with triple social spending and a purge of Democratic dinosaurs, cannot compensate for the collapse of the discovolante wing, hit by retirements and burnouts. Old wise Nathan reluctantly substitutes her in the Chamber, leaving his previous post to SlamDunk himself.
- The Green Party reverts to irrelevancy levels despite khuzifenq's best efforts; apparently, the magic only lasts once. Donerail inherits the Senate leadership post.
- The Libertarian Party and especially the Constitution Party somehow manage to lose plenty of the little they had, with rightists looking over to the Republicans. To conclude, a surprising number of non-affiliateds make their way into Parliament this time.

EDIT - Post-election:
The Senate majority, despite all, keeps being a Democratic/Socialist coalition, with SlamDunk begrudingly accepting the deal made necessary because the Independent and Republican parties have lost too much credibility and the Other Party has too much credibility to lose.
The Chamber majority changes again - the same circumstances forcing the hand in the Senate plus higher shares for the opposition parties lead to a novel and potentially explosive Democratic/Socialist/Green coalition.
The Free Wessex Movement has last been seen posting newspaper ads searching for a new leader. RIP

Conservatopia [...] greatly exceeded spending limits and therefore it is a court trial and not a seat in Parliament that awaits him.

You might very well think that - I couldn't possibly comment...

- The Independent Party, a weird coalition of left-leaning idiosyncratic people who hate the Democrats because they are contrarians, takes a strange turn and becomes an affiliate of the Abrahamic Ecumenical Council, with Christian leader Scott, Jewish leader CraneHusband, and Muslim leader Abdullah becoming the new parliamentary leaders and enjoying their sizable gains and newfound solid third place in the Chamber.

I just noticed this but this is pretty cool. I don't know of any (though I'm sure in all the history of the world there's bound to have been at least one) political party that's religiously oriented but is essentially a collection of members of similar faiths working toward the same goals rather than one operating strictly under the principles of Distributism/Christian Democracy or Jewish law or Islam-influenced socialist parties. Sorta like a religious rainbow coalition.

However, it has emerged after the election that Abdullah, one of the leaders, greatly exceeded campaign spending limits. He therefore is exlcuded from taking a seat in this Parliament, and will have to stand trial for the violations.

Were my recommendations nullified?

Conservatopia [...] greatly exceeded spending limits and therefore it is a court trial and not a seat in Parliament that awaits him.

You might very well think that - I couldn't possibly comment...

All the recommendations from both of you were counted, which, incidentally, is the reason why both of your parties did very well. But I thought your prolificness might as well receive a skewering.
