I currently have two options, and I'm not exactly sure which I should pick.

My girlfriend will be at a house party with a bunch of her friends, most of whom I don't really like.  I wanted to be with her at midnight, but she doesn't really mind.

The other option is going out on the town with my buddies.  I'll probably end up doing this, but I'll probably end up spending way too much money and doing something dumb.

What about you guys?

Go with this one Joe.  You're about the same age I am, and when you look at it.  You say at the present time, or before something happens that it'll be dumb.  But you usually get some great memories from stupid sh!t and you can always talk about with friends years from now.  You only live once.  (Just don't get caught by the cops Tongue  )

Hmm, waiting for an old bud Eric to call back.  He's got some plan's he's letting me in on.  Not too sure exactly, but since it's BYOB and I haven't seen him in years, it'll be fun nonetheless Grin

I'll no doubt be at my grandmothers to celebrate Hogmanay in true Scottish style with shortbread, Scotch broth, whisky and 'first-footing' Smiley

Just after the 'bells' at midnight the neighbourhood usually sets off fireworks and congregate outside.

afleitch, what is "first-footing"? Tongue Al mentioned it too, and I'm not sure what that is. Is it a British tradition?

I’ll probably be on this Forum for most of it Tongue

Seriously, I think we’re gonna stay up late and watch the ball drop in Times Square, that’s what we usually do.

Not sure how it's done in Scotland (I'd assume it'd be about the same) but the traditional Durham one is when the darkest haired male in the family goes knocking on people's houses (in most cases it's just the house they live in but...) as soon as the New Year starts, in order to be the first person to cross the threshold to the house. You offer a bit of coal and get a drink and so on in return. Traditional.

The most important part is having a good distraction.  I personally scream at them, "I'M STEALING YOUR WALLET!"  It hasn't really worked very well so far, but I'm hopeful.

Hmm. You learn something new every day.  Is this a midlands, Geordie and Scots traditions?  I was actually in London during one New Year and never heard of that.

Indeed.  It seems very likely that I'll be doing exactly the same thing.

See, somebody gets it. It's not like it's a special thing for him (BRTD).
