I've been following RealClearPolitics for about 3 years now, and I have also used adblockers on my laptop for even longer. There's never been an issue before, but only just today I went on the site to see they are now forcing users to either allow ads and disable their adblocker on the site, or pay for a subscription. Otherwise, you only get 3 free views per-day.

I hate websites that force people to do this. I understand they are business and need to make money, but it is still annoying to have my content limited if I do not pay.

I just use it for the Poll averages, which, IMO, is the only thing that matters on the site.

If these sites would stop using high-resource intrusive video ads and return to banners (even if the entire page is nothing but banner ads on the sides) I'd have no problem turning off adblock.

indeed.  Even popup ads are less bothersome than videos with sound that autoplay.  I'm not sure why websites think those are a good idea.

In my experience, sites that block people using adblockers typically treat incognito mode as using an adblocker.

I'd suggest using a second browser just for those sites if you really need to view them.

This is not uncommon for a variety of websites. Most German newspapers force visitors to disable adblockers. It's annoying for sure, but somehow they need to generate revenue if users don't pay for it. The only thing I really can't stand his too aggressive ads.
