A new rivalry brewing. Of course for this we have to assume afleitch is constitutionally eligible.

I vote afleitch/afleitch.

We'd have to assume the same for jamfest, as he'd need to be of sound mind.

Although obviously I would vote for Afleitch; sadly, I doubt he'd win.  Given the choice between a gay guy with a British accent and a libertarian outlook, and a deeply religious conservative from Texas, I think we all know how the map would look. Sad

Interesting subject!

While I am not the ideal candidate, I would hope that Jmfcst, in my opinion one of the most intolerant and divisive people on the forum, could not win such an election.

afleitch/jmfcst

America wouldn't elect a gay president.

afleitch would make a great president, probably one of our best ever, but sadly, I fear being gay would destroy his chances, even if jmfcst is a nutcase Sad

afleitch/afleitch

Me and afleitch have had our differences in the past, but by and large he's a sound bloke and politically I'd choose him over Jmfcst any time. Maybe I should go repent now. Wink

afleitch/afleitch

as Afleitch's second hand man (I hope Wink) in most of the religious battles he has with jmfcst, I must say my opinion of Afleitch (while already good) has risen quite a bit recently.

afleitch/very close.

I'm proud to say that afleitch would certainly win my state.  Especially if he ran from it. Smiley

Afleitch/dunno

Afleitch may be gay, but he isn't very forward about it, and jmfcst is also much, much more of a conservative Christian than Bush is.

I may make a map later if I get bored. Smiley

Did a map for it, and, well, maybe afleitch would win, after all Cheesy

afleitch: 281
jmfcst: 257

Unfortunately, it would be a very divisive election.

I think I would win more of the Catholic vote than it would appear. Despite being gay am I church going Catholic and Jmfcst has made some derogatory comments towards Catholicism. Secondly blatant evangelicalism does not sit well with many Catholics.

Utah would be an interesting one.  Jamfest has frequently argued that Mormons are not actually Christians, which probably wouldn't go down too well in the Beehive State.  I still think they'd vote for him over Afleitch, but turnout would probably be rock-bottom.

Well, at least most Catholic priests would vote for you. Tongue

I don't think being gay would hurt afleitch, since the people who wouldn't vote for him because of that are almost all Republicans anyway. He'd win almost all moderate and socially liberal Republicans (obviously) and would still do well in Democrat-voting populist areas because (and this is something most people don't get) even though many populist areas (especially around here in the Midwest) are socially conservative, they are not fundamentalist and do not appreciate fundamentalist nutters telling them what to do. jmfcst would go over as well in Northeast Minnesota (a mostly populist area) as he would in downtown Minneapolis.

Um, no you wouldn't.  You're either joking or deluded if you think that.

I grew up in neighborhood that was 98% black.  I share their social views and certain lifestyles are even more taboo among blacks than with me.  I could go into the black churches and preach from their pulpits and win the backing of a vast majority of black pastors.

I would remind the black community that racist whites are trying to rewrite history by saying the Civil War wasn't fought over slavery.  I would campaign with Bill Cosby on my side.

I would win the Catholic vote 3-1 since I am more Catholic than afleitch.  I would tell them that I don't just occupy a space on a pew, I live the word.

I would win the Jewish vote 2-1 since I am a HUGE supporter of Israel.

I would spend 75% of my campaign stops talking to hispanics, blacks, and jews.  And of course, I would win the white vote.

It would be easier for me to win D.C. than to win Vermont!
