If Beto does not win the nomination for President (which seems more likely than not at this point), do you see him running for Governor in 2022? If so, would he win?

He seriously shot himself in the foot with his comments on automated rifles and gun control, so probably not.

It seems that a majority of Republicans nationwide support an assault weapons ban and a good amount of Texans think stricter gun laws may help the gun violence problem. I'm not sure when the latter data was measured, but the trend seems to be in favor of greater restrictions, so it may not be the losing issue we think it is.

Beto doesnt want to be a natl figure, running Veep would good for him. He doesnt want to run for statewide office again and neither does Castro, who is also in the running for Veep

The assault weapons ban, background checks, etc. are popular, but mandatory buybacks certainly aren't, especially in Texas.

No, by that point a stronger group of contenders will be on the scene to contest the nomination. Democrats won’t need Beto and he probably wouldn’t even be the preferred choice for most primary voters.

I'm starting to become of the opinion that the TX Dems need to move on from Beto. Perhaps his close affair with Ted was the inevitable result of Texas trends. Or maybe he's just awful at national politics.

He's too national. He needs to run in a rematch against Cruz.

Let's be real, he ended his career in that debate. The best he can hope to be now is Mayor of El Paso. Beto blew it. But it's not the first thing he's blown, so....

Beto, by running for president, simultaneously ended any chances he had at a statewide office in Texas for the short term. If Texas does become a blue state down the road, he could win, but he'll be in his 60's by then probably.

Nah, I’m afraid the only future he appears to have now is hosting a second tier Crooked Media podcast.

The debate, last night all but ended Beto's career, its up to the Castros to take the new mantle for Dems as possible Veep candidate or as GOV, Julian and Joaquin

The only way his political career continues at this point is by carpetbagging or getting a cabinet post.

This. He's really proving to be the worst Dem running this cycle.

I highly doubt he runs for anything in 2022, but regardless, Greg Abbott has the governorship for as long as he wants it.

After Beto's war cry to tax churches that don't agree with particular worldviews, he's done forever with both national and Texas politics.  Texas is still a heavily evangelical state, and even Christians who take a more liberal view on sexuality (such as myself) will never stand for Communist Chinese tactics such as these.

Given this stunt, the gun control stunt, the way he initially launched his campaign, livestreaming his haircut and dentist appointment, and taking a road trip to "find himself," I can't help but wonder if this whole campaign of his is just one giant mid-life crisis.

Beto wont be a candidate in the future and wont qualify for the nxt debate. Will drop out before Iowa. Beto is only in the race, he has the debate stage, once that is gone, he has nothing.

Beto is an embarrassment of Texas. Cruz is more mature than this guy.

His whole schtick is “I’m young and cool” but he’s already like 47, so times a factor here. His gun pandering didn’t just expose his ambition, but also his stupidity.

He’s blown too much capital on this quixotic presidential bid to be successful statewide imo

He completely blew it with this trainwreck of a presidential run, if that's what one wants to call it. I know many in Austin and Houston, very strong Beto supporters against Cruz that now honestly, wish he would just shut up and go away.

He's got foot in the mouth syndrome now.

Beto's only hope for political prominence is to (A) work behind the scenes to help the Democrats carry Texas, so that (B) he can secure at least a second-tier Cabinet Secretary position, where (C) he has a chance to garner some grown-up accomplishments that will enable voters to forget what was one of the worst campaigns I've ever seen by any candidate in any party.  Beto did more to damage his future electability than any Presidential candidate I've seen in a long time.  He was Lincoln Chaffee-esque.  Martin O'Malley did less to cause his stock to drop than did Beto.
