Season 3 of Babylon 5.

Babylon 5 is one of my most favorite shows and Season 3 was its high point with many wonderful episodes such as "Passing Through Gethsemane" (scene), "Dust to Dust" (scene), "Sic Transit Vir","A Late Delivery from Avalon" (scene), the "War Without End two-parter", and "The Rock Cried Out, No Hiding Place" (scene)

Other than possibly the scene from "Dust to Dust", I think all the scenes I linked are comprehensible, albeit maybe not fully appreciable, even if you've never seen Babylon 5.

Book Two, Earth; Avatar: The Last Airbender

Nothing before or since has been both so funny, so tightly written, or so dramatic.

Agreed on all this, though "Severed Dreams" is my favorite of both this season and the series as a whole, so also deserves a mention.

Season 4 is very close behind for me though.  I lost my head over that season.

The first season of the short-lived Murder One was nothing short of spellbinding.  Among comedies, I'd take either of the first two seasons of Soap (the greatest sitcom of all time).

I dunno maybe the only season of Firefly.  The Wire, Breaking Bad, Sopranos, the first season of True Detective, the second season of Fleabag are all possible options.

"Severed Dreams" was a good episode and important to the story arc, but it was missing the character development that in my opinion was characteristic of the best episodes of that show. From your post it's clear that puns is what you want. I appreciate good puns, as long as their use is justified and not merely explained with a hand wave.

Best season of TOS, but not even the best Trek season as that would be the penultimate 6th season of DS9.

It's kind of impossible for me to compare dramas and comedies, so I'll go with Season 4 of The Wire and Season 2 of Community.

I think the second half of season 3 (from "Human Nature" on) is the best run of episodes in modern Who.  But when considering a whole season, my favorite is season 5 (Smith's first).

I'm not really surprised OSR enjoys watching torture porn.
