Last year I did a similar poll in order to find out what 2008 songs you like.
In order to remind you again how fast time flies by and that another decade is almost over, I thought I also do a poll about your favorite 2009 songs. 😎

PS: You can still vote in the 2008 poll.

There are actually two music videos for MGMT's Kids, an official video by the band (with a Nietzsche quote wrongly accredited to Mark Twain 🙄), and a fan video that made the song famous in the first place.
In the list above I linked the official video. If you wanna watch the thousand times better fan video to that song, here is it. (Actually it is just a copy since the original has been deleted. 😒)

By the way, am I only one who gets unpleasant melancholic feelings aroused from their innermost heartstrings by the nostalgic vibes of this song? I always feel kind of bad and sad when I'm listening to this song. 😩

jeez, it's 90% dance music, hip hop or "singy" music...I'm actualy just assuming it's 90%...the only "band" I recongnize as a band on that entire list is The Killers.  What an ass list.

(and for the record, I'm not a "Rock is dead!" guy either, rock is very much alive, pop music is just pure ass compared to pop music in the past when proper bands that played their own instruments, wrote their own songs and the music was exciting to listen to.  Duran Duran might not be great, but it's a million times better than whatever the hell a David Guetta is.)

Chester Bennington is turning in his grave right now. 😨
The All-American Rejects and Kings of Leon ought to satisfy your taste of music, too.
MGMT (The Management) is a band in your sense also, but not a classical rock band, as they rather play psychodelic rock.
What about Lady Antebellum? Do you like country as a Nebraskan?

What's the deal with all those Miley votes. Are those all ironical votes, or is this forum inundated with Miley fanboys. 😋

God this was good. 2006-11 was one of the best periods in music, after only 1996-2004.

This has just reconfirmed my opinion that the late 00s was the absolute nadir of popular music.

I mean this isn't good, but at least this era of music was happy club bangers rather than gloomy trap stuff.

The best is probably Gaga and MGMT tbh. Huge fan of MGMT tbh.

Well, that was the first year where i listened songs. I'll have to listen a bit, and it will feel nostalgic to me Tongue But most of them are outdated to be honest.

Same here!

Anyway, I dislike or simply don't care about every single song on this list.

Well, I live in a different universe so this list didn't excite me much either.  I voted for the Killers (the album actually came out in 2008) All American Rejects, Party in the USA, and Not Fair.

After a cursory check with AllMusic, it seems 2009 was a pretty mediocre year.  Neko Case and PJ Harvey both had very good albums.  Sonic Youth, Weezer and the Decemberists had disappointing or too esoteric efforts for me.  Dan Auerbach had a very good solo album and Bob Mould  commenced on his post-electronica rehab/ascendancy.   On the Alt-country spectrum Buddy and Julie Miller had a nice album.  That's about it.  dead0man might have liked Them Crooked Vultures, but it's not something I'm likely to pull out and listen to again anytime soon.

A pretty good year for music, all things considered. Well needed, given all the other stuff going on that year.

Ah, 2009. The last year that there was quite a bit of music that I liked out. I just looked at the 2008 poll and I did notice that there were quite a few more songs I liked out in 2009 than in 2008 (for US music ofc, French music was definitely better in 2008 on the other hand). That was probably the only year anytime recently, and almost certainly as far as I can remember, where the music that year was better than the music the year before. Disclosure: I basically stopped listening to mainstream music about 4 years ago for the most part, with the odd exception, or when I fly).

That being said, I still only voted for a minority of these songs but there was still stuff I liked coming out, unlike today.

The biggest FF period for music as far as I can remember was 2005-2007 (the first year I can remember what music was out at the time well was 2005).
