1. You should read the works of Martin Luther King Jr., particularly how he encouraged his protesters not to riot. He would actively prepare them and train them beforehand, in advance, to prevent protesters from turning to violence. This was highly successful and essentially told the people that they should not participate in his protests if they wanted to go commit crimes. If your "protest" is not ready to oppose violence, then perhaps you should go protest in favor of the violence you so admire--however, the police should arrest you, should your protest for violence escalate into a real riot, and you should be held liable for damages.
2. Prohibiting "protesters" from wearing masks to hide their identities while they go protest with Molotov cocktails, clubs, and other weapons (including possibly guns) is a basic, simple, and effective means to prevent criminal activity. There's a reason burglars dress like burglars, and it's not free speech.
3. Leftists censorship on social media is, without a doubt, the worst censorship currently extant in the United States to say the least. The second-worst would be the SJW cancel culture which is the sole permissible voice fostered under the censorship regimes of these websites.

First off, I'm a big opponent of cancel culture and rampant idpol. And I do worry a little that those things will become more and more mainstream, but the difference (now at least) is that it's Twitter dumbasses "cancelling" people, not government institutions.

Mask bans are bad, regardless of the intention of whoever is wearing it. If they want to conceal their identity, so be it. Not everyone who wears a mask to a protest commits a crime. It's hard to tell whether a riot will happen until it does: threats don't always play out, and some things just happen spontaneously.

I think in the end we just have drastically different views on free speech and the government's role in it.

Or full scale elimination of immigrant cultures (e.g. the surpression of German during WW1) in favour of a homogenous "American" identity?
