Ted Stevens just said goodbye to the Senate. Wow. "I say goodbye to the Senate tonight" was the quote after a bitterly angry speech on the ANWR vote. Maybe I am reading this the wrong way?

I really, really hope so.  He's by far the worst senator.  My little sister is more mature than Ted Stevens.

That would be an interesting development.

I agree with Senator Stevens here but really dislike the man otherwise. I wasn't watching it live on TV (PA has PCN here for a few hours during the evening) but I watched it at C-SPAN2.org. I apparently missed the most passionate, angry parts of the speech (According to NixonNow) but he was upset when I heard him and that last line was something else.

I doubt he'd resign.  He more likely meant that this latest development could be the reason for stepping down at the end of his term.  But even then, I wouldn't really say he'll follow it through just yet.

Wait didn't he promise to resign if he didn't get his bridge to nowhere?  Put up or shut up already Ted.

I was so excited when he said that. I can't stand that pork barreling lame excuse for a Senator but I agree with him here. However, even though I agree with his position on ANWR, I want him to resign.

I wonder who the Gov. of AK would appoint to fill his seat?

Oh wait.  If he resigns, Frank Murkowski gets to make another appointment.  Does Lisa have a sibling, or other lame-ass relative?

NixonNow and I were joking about that. I actually think Frank would appoint himself since re-election isn't looking that likely next year. In fact, renomination isn't even looking likely. If he appoints himself that would be his last hurrah. He wouldn't have to worry about another election until 2010 and I bet he'd just retire that year anyway.

Does Alaska call for an election at the next general election like some states do or not?

No, he's not resigning. He's just dismissed the other 99 Senators, and will be appointing their successors tomorrow.

If Ted Stevens is threatening to resign, all I can say is, "Don't let the door hit your ass on the way out."

Would be nice though if we could wait for Knowles to win next fall, that is he actually runs and more importantly wins in the first place which while probable is still “up-in-the-air” so to speak.

Indeed if Steven’s resignation means a special election in November for the Senate seat, would Knowles be better off running for Senate again? Had it not been a presidential year he’d have probably won last year, in a midterm election with the GOP likely to be on the back foot he’d stand an even better shot at winning.

If the governor was Democratic, Stevens probably wouldn't resign at all.

Look at politicalwire.com. Frank Murkowski isn't running for re-election in 2006.

Stevens is an ass.

Ok so Politics1 has this as it's main story. I made a mistake earlier - Stevens is up for re-election in 2008, not 2010. If he was to resign (Seems like I wasn't crazy last night since some are talking about it and his staff refuses to clarify) there would be a special election.

Any news on what Uncle Ted meant?

I don't understand why Alaskans like him so much.  Apparently, the whole independent, economically conservative thing doesn't play so big when it's their mouthes the pork is feeding.
