Major.

He clearly lacked Cameron's tactical skill - both lacked strategic vision - and may have been drastically unpopular on his day, but unlike Cameron he didn't risk his entire premiership on political gambles (the whole "Put up or shut up", I think, was both necessary and brave), his list of accomplishments and the economic recovery in the later years of his premiership dwarfs that of Cameron, and the 1992 triumph is more impressive than 2015.

Hindsight is already treating Major favorably and it is likely he'll rank higher in the future, particularly compared to Blair, who is now almost universally reviled. I still like David Cameron and would certainly prefer it if he was leading the Conservative Party rather than Boris, but I can't see him being treated too kindly by history even if Brexit manages something resembling a positive and non-chaotic final outcome.

I voted for Cameron accidentally, but wanted to vote for Major. He didn't risk his entire political career on one gamble.

Okay, maybe Mike Johnson is a competent parliamentarian.

Major and it's not close. It's not just a question of risking their own political careers; Cameron's gamble has gravely endangered Britain's standard of living and standing in the world as well.

John Major is probably the best post-Churchill prime minister from the Tory ranks.

Major, who is way under-rated and has a chic '90s aesthetic.

John Major easily. I actually think he was one of the better post-WWII PMs. Cameron on the other hand was pretty bad and will go down as one of the worst post-WWII PMs.

It’s interesting how basically no British Prime Minister since the 1980s has a positive public opinion...

I’m voting for Cameron, actually. Apart from the referendum, he led a broad economic recovery, significantly reduced debt and deficit, and legalized gay marriage.
