One of the best possible recruits for this seat for the GOP. The odds arent in Peterson's favor.

Colin Peterson is going to have a lot of free time come 2021. What hobbies do you think he will take up?

She'd absolutely win a general.

Problem is, she has to get through a primary first.

One thing to point out is that the Pawlenty-Fischbach ticket failed to carry the Fischbach senate district in the primary.

I don't think she's the inevitable nominee, but if the GOP is smart, they'll nominate her over Hughes.

And Hughes isn't just some nobody at this point that the GOP pulled off the street.

Tossup at worst for Peterson.  He certainly could lose but to say a 20+ year incumbent and Chair of the AG committee is certain to lose is unrealistic IMO. Fischbach is a good recruit but not an unbeatable one.

Collin Peterson should probably retire now, because with Fischbach the NRCC is definitely going to spend big here, unlike in 2016 and 2018, and in both of those races, Peterson squeaked by

I'll start this race at Likely R

Lol Atlas is way too fast to declare races over

It’s definitely R-favored but it’s not over as of now. Might be by next November of course.

Posting on Atlas.

I mean Peterson has done more than enough already, and he is well beyond retirement age. He chairs the powerful ag committee, and has kept a GOP seat out of their hands long enough for it to be boxed up and reapportioned down to Texas. His long service has done plenty for Minnesota. He deserves some rest.

Hell, even even if he somehow wins, the retirement notice is almost certainly coming in 2021, for all the reasons listed above. I don't think any Dem should be shedding tears or any Republican should be chearing that 2020 will be the year this seat fell into GOP hands - not 2010, not 2012, not 2014, not 2016, and not 2018.

Peterson also survived the 1994 Republican Revolution. It is amazing that he has managed to hold on for so long. If he were to pull it off one more time next year, and then retire afterwards, then that would be a fitting end to his career. Republicans should have held this seat for the past 28 years. That they have not, is definitely a testament to his capabilities.

Well Ben McAdams will likely hold the most Republican district to be represented by a Democrat come Jan 2021!

Great new, it means that republicans have finally decided to target him. I hope he will be gone after next year.

How about this, it's not "Safe R" nor is it "toss-up at worst" for Petersen. Those are two extreme characterizations.
