Oof so the far right might make it?

That would mean that one of the very few "dominoes" that were yet to fall to the spell of the far right has fallen Sad (though it's not like PSD doesn't have the usual conspiracy theorists and what not?)

Which countries are left in the EU without a far right party? By the strictest definitions and my counts is it seriously just Malta and Ireland?
Tbh it was to be expected for the far right to make a comeback in Romania, where the communist regime was so...national-socialist. But keep in mind that this was the perfect context for such a party (backlash against COVID restrictions) and turnout so low that the small base of conspirationists is enough. I am not worried about them yet. They will probably share PPDD's fate.

Where are you getting the results from? Quite surprising results.

USR - 14%
AUR - 9%
UDMR - 8%

How much of the urban vote is in?
Sorry, missed that! At 82% of the votes in, almost everything out is from major urban centers (or from abroad).

How likely is it that PNL manages to take the lead in the end? PSD coming 1st once again despite everything that happened would be something.

This is shocking - 24% of the vote is counted abroad, so this may not hold, but AUR is right now on second (!) ahead of PNL (!!!) with 26% of the vote. USR is ahead with 31% or so.

Also, in Bihor County from Transylvania, the counting is basically done with 96% of the vote in, PNL is at 34% compared to its result from the local elections, which was 57% (!).

This is a wild night.

I just said this was a wild night. Understatement.

Victor Ponta, the leader of PRO, has just posted a message of Facebook basically admitting defeat and saying that now it is time to focus on his family.

PRO is at 4.4% with 91% in and it seems unlikely to pass the threshold.

Another loser of this election is apparently the Bucharest Mayor Nicusor Dan, the founder of USR who posted a message on Facebook a week ago urging people to vote for PNL. The people in the city have seemingly ignored him - with 83% in, PNL is at 23%, behind both USR which has 31% and PSD with 28%.

So, it will be a PNL-USR-UDMR government. However, I don't know if it will be a stable government. The AUR is just out of the blue.

PMP might still make it, they are at 4.8%.

I was talking about the Chamber too.
Anyway, I suppose that is irrelevant. Basescu and PMP have a strong base in Moldova (the Republic) which makes me not rule them out.

Oh, ok ok. This is the one good result page I found. The BEC page goes to a full blank page with nothing, at least for me.

The website is alright. It is behind the TV stations by 5-7% of the precincts however

Is it possible the AUR vote from abroad might include a large contingent of Romanians living in Moldova who see it as a way to push for reunification? I know percentage-wise the number of Romanian citizens living in Moldova don't make up the vast majority, or even a plurality, of Romanian citizens abroad, but it's still something like a million people, and in a low-turnout election, they seem like they might be more likely to vote than Romanians in other countries.

The first results from Moldova (which may not hold) show AUR at "only" 10%

Tbh I am disheartened and disappointed by these results. How can so many not turnout after everything that has happened, or to vote for parties like PSD and AUR which are corrupt, extremist and nationalist parties which want to cancel restrictions despite the huge number of cases and deaths is beyond me. My expectations were too high I guess.

Anyway, please excuse this mini-meltdown. I think the counting will slow down a bit so I doubt that we will have the final results during the next 3 hours. Not much can change but I hope PMP somehow makes it. I am no fan of them, but I don't want the crooked UDMR holding the keys to the government yet again, blocking any potential reforms.
