So, will he just win in a cakewalk?

Yes, I believe so.  Carter is a fairly weak candidate.  It will be decided by 20-25%.

Yeah, there was a poll out awhile back showing Ensign winning by large margins.  Ensign's certainly not as entrenched as Orrin Hatch or Ted Kennedy, but Nevada voters don't really have much of a reason to vote him out of office.

Only a few things you need to know about this race:

- Reed is very unlikely to active campaign against Ensign.
- Ensign is popular.
- The challenger is some Carter offspring with no reason to run other than their name.

He won't even come close in Clark County.

Do you think Ensign would reciprocate and not campaign against Reed? I think it's a bit irresponsible to the DSCC that is going to have to put something into this race and their efforts are undermined by their own minority leader.

Ensign and he are friends.  It's actually a rather nice set-up for Nevada.  The most you'll see out of either is a reenforcing quote calling the Dem candidate "a good, capable man."  They may campaign for their respective party members, but viciously attack eachother, no.

Nevada likes the relationship.  Their senators are not politically all that close, but they co-operate for the state's good.  Neither senator wants to be the one to break that bond.

Too bad we don't have a Nevadan on this board, or at least someone in the Las Vegas media market.

It's really not even as if Jack Carter can use his name for great effect.  Nevada voted against his father both times; by a margin of 36 points in 1980.

Very true, although Clark County was only 51% of the vote in 1980, and it is now 66%.  Not like it matters, though.
