Ford, Carter, and Reagan signed a letter supporting the Assault Weapons Ban, but it would prove to be perhaps the most polarizing policy of the Clinton era.

Most likely yes. It's funny how this dude, and even Reagan, seem to be like moderates today.

Reagan and Goldwater moved the GOP to the right, but it's Gingrich who started this hyperpartisanship. Dudes like Donald Trump, Kris Kobach and Roy Moore are the endresult of this radicalization.

He'd already permanently banned the import of semi automatic rifles in 1989, so I see no reason as to why he wouldn't.
