Mission Statement: The Atlasian Civil Liberties Union is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated towards defending and preserving the individual rights guaranteed by our laws and Constitution to all.

We seek to defend freedom of speech, freedom of the press, freedom of assembly, freedom of religious exercise, the right to bear arms, protection from unwarranted search and seizure, criminal justice reform, due process and rights of the accused, eminent domain, the right to travel, the right to equal treatment, the right to privacy, and we stand to oppose cruel and unusual punishments and private prisons.

There's a pending bill in the Senate queue that is particularly awful and regressive from a civil liberties standpoint. One of many complaints about that bill is that it imposes 250 new federal crimes, even though criminal reform efforts had been largely moving towards decriminalization of victimless crimes so that citizens can actually know what activities are actually crimes. Apparently that some of these new vague and pointless proposed crimes affect businesses means the ACLU is not allowed to have any opinion on the bill, including the non-business crimes, or I guess criminal reform at all.

Prison unions have nothing whatsoever to do with civil liberties, and are a totally different issue from private prisons. I strongly oppose this short-sighted change.
