On March 20 I contacted Loeffler's office via their web contact page (since their phones were tied up), urging her to resign.

Today I got an email response.  It begins:

"Dear Mr. ______,

Thank you for contacting me about the impeachment trial of President Donald J. Trump. It is an honor to serve as Senator for the people of Georgia, and I appreciate the opportunity to hear from you on this important issue."

Words fail me.

Ooohhh deeeaaarrr gooooddddd...

Loeffler apparently caught for insider trading.

Honestly, this isnt good news in terms of the Senate race. Basically solidifies that Collins ( the stronger candidate) will be republican.

They're both weak General Election candidates. The GOP will slide even further in the suburbs with Collins.
Collins is actually a solid candidate for the general. Think of it this way-- if Trump wins, so does Collins, and I could envision him outrunning Trump a bit. I can not say the same of Loeffler, particularly after this.

Collins would be toxic in the suburbs.

Kemp was supposed to be too.

And he did quite poorly. Just utterly maxed rural White turn out. And as noted elsewhere in this thread, even he isn't as far right-wing as Collins.

The crazy thing is, if I understand the numbers correctly, she stood to lose far less than she was willing to spend on her election this year, if she had just left the stocks alone. So that makes this even more absurd (on top of atrocious and possibly illegal?).

As I noted in another thread, wild as long as her recent investment in a company that produces Auntie infection garments and the like wasn't based on Insider information she would have received in her position as senator, then said investment was simply a canny financial move rather than insider-trading. Nevertheless, it is beyond politically tone-deaf, as she will simply come off as someone profiting because of a national crisis. In the fact she did this when she was facing a tough primary battle to boot is beyond stupid.

EDIT: And it appears that these stock trades all took place in the days and weeks immediately preceding an all Senate closed-door meeting discussing the oncoming dangers of the Coronavirus. I really spoke too soon and giving insider trading Barbie the benefit of the doubt.

F*** this cankerous b****. F*** her and Richard Burr both straight to the lowest pits of insider-trading hell.

Who increases Democrats odds of taking this seat, Collins or Loeffler?
Loeffler is the weaker candidate now definitely but Collins is pretty far right and a trumper so who knows I think dems have a 55% chance of beating Loeffler and a 30% chance of beating Collins

Oh, Loeffler is undoubtedly the weaker candidate now. Do not underestimate Georgia's potential to still elect far right wing white dudes Statewide notwithstanding the growth and increasing democratic strength in metro Atlanta. But Loeffler is just mortally wounded at this point it's difficult to see how she would shake this off. Unfortunately, she has next to silt chance of winning the primary I'd guess at this point.

AZ and GA could have all Dem Senate delegations in 2020. Insane.

And maybe NC too? Wink

The crazy thing is that this is absolutely a minuscule percentage of her net worth. To use round numbers, let’s say she’s worth $500m and sold $4m worth of stock. That’s .08% and not even accounting for the fact that her husband is also worth somewhere in the $500m ballpark.  $4m sounds like a lot to us plebes but when you’re worth this much, it’s a rounding error. She’s gonna lose a senate seat for something she did three weeks in and is looking at prison time over a f**king rounding error.

Edit: She sold $19m so it’s .38% but my larger point still stands.

I’m sure she’s got a lawyer for this now too. Good lawyers cost money and let’s say she does end up getting a fine or something (not saying she will), that $19m could be gone in lawyer fees and a settlement.

(puts on math pedant hat)

Check your decimal places.   Smiley $19m is 3.8% of $500m (and $4m is 0.8%).

Ironic, considering her sales of stock have been in the multi-millions of dollars, if she's ultimately undone by a $46,027 sale.

Over/under on Loeffler's percentage in the jungle primary?  I'll go with 15.

Increasingly this is looking like a lockout in the jungle primary.
Collins 30
Loeff 20
Warnock 19
Lieberman 18

Will Matt Lieberman drop out as the deadline approaches, or will he fill his father's small shoes and undermine the Dems again?

Where does the other 13% of the electorate go? I don't think Loeffler makes the runoff, even 20% may be overrating her as she's a terrible politician

Yeah, it seems like the undecideds are mainly minority voters who would only start paying attention when we get closer to the election. This put Loeffer in an even worse position - she is losing to Warnocks present ~20% in the most recent poll I saw for instance.

I’m like 99% sure this won’t be a lockout. Democrats will coalesce around one candidate, and he’ll face Collins in the runoff.

I do NOT want to have Collins as my senator.

Democrats need to have one candidate to rally behind.
