NEW YORK (Reuters) - Support for U.S. President Donald Trump increased slightly among Republicans after he lashed out on Twitter over the weekend in a "racially charged attack" on four minority Democratic congresswomen, a Reuters/Ipsos public opinion poll shows.

The Tea Party was never about too much spending, it was mostly about racism. With his racist tweets and remarks, Trump again build up the "we vs. them" narrative. In his America, you only belong to the country if you're white. Sad, but true. It's so painful after the first AA prez.

Republican voters are both intelligent and wise. Even ones who are skeptical of or disappointed in Trump recognize the value in repudiating political correctness and going on the offense against the radical left.

It's disgusting that the GOP's support for Trump has risen in the wake of his crassly racist tweets slamming AOC, Tlaib, Omar, and Pressley.

NOTE: "racially charged" is a cowardly euphemism for racist.

Political Correctness is the eejit's boogeyman.

Funny how everyone recognises that many Republicans are "skeptical or disappointed in Trump", yet all the media bangs on about is how millions of Democratic voters will be alienated by the left in 2020.

Tlaib and Omar are far more racist than Trump, and it’s not even close.

The “blue avatars” here don’t make up the Republican electorate. If anything, this type of thing will solidify Trumps base even more.

Told ya.

You cannot be serious. "Go back to your country" is inherently racist. Bottom line. People need to stop using political correctness to hide behind saying whatever they want, no matter how hateful it is.

The vast majority of Republicans aren't disappointed in Trump. There is a tiny minority of somewhat egotistical, status anxious, intellectually insecure anti Trump types who tend to congregate in progressive echochambers like Washington DC, the rich parts of NYC, USElectionAtlas.org, etc but by and large the vast majority of us recognize the Blessing to the Country and Our Party that he obviously is.

I'm as authentic as beloved Democrat figures like Beto O'Rourke, Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, and Hillary Clinton.

The GOP is a cult revolving around Trump so this isn't surprising at all.

Maybe I am giving him too much credit, but this is probably why he said it. He's trying to rally the base.

White racists may not comprise all Republicans, but practically all white racists are now Republicans.
The same sorts of people who salivated as George Wallace offered them racist and anti-intellectual attacks now are with Trump. "Stand up for America" has become "Make America Great Again". White racists are adapted to racism as alcoholics are to booze.

Racism is not deep thought, and anti-intellectualism is the rejection of any but the shallowest sort of thought. Donald Trump has done what every totalitarian and authoritarian dictator has done in reducing the level of political discourse to that of the elementary level of bare literacy.

This is why I push back on all talk that implicitly positions Trump and the GOP as separate, or like the GOP establishment is just waiting for a chance to dump him.

They ARE him. They always have been. He's a culmination of everything they've stood for, not an interloper.

I hate it when news articles don't link to the poll they are reporting about.  Doesn't even give the raw numbers, only the net approval.  Can anyone find it?

There is nothing inconsistent about believing that Trump pushes florid racial polarization by design, that it increases support among his supporters and possible supporters and that, based on the last trial heat (2018), it mobilizes a sizable majority coalition against him.
