So I was just looking through Texas lt gov results and Collier did a lot better in rural areas . For example a tiny county(King texas ) was +90 Cruz but only +53 Dan Patrick. It didn't really matter but hundreds of these counties did give him a decent boost.  However he lost by 5 points instead of Nelson and Beto who lost by 4 and 2.5 points. Now dropoff can explain he difference between Beto and Collier but AG was further down than lt gov so it doesn't explain that. So who are these voters who voted for a D AG/Senator but also an R lt gov who was relatively extreme?

They didn’t know just how extreme he was is the simple answer. I think the AG race was actually winnable had more voters been made aware of Paxton’s indictment. LG was always a bridge too far without scandal

Resents Cruz for opposing Trump for so long, convinced Paxton is corrupt and opposed him in the primary.  Voted for every other R on the ballot, these were their only statewide Dem votes since at least 1998, possibly 1990.

That's the former G.W. Bush base.  They are obviously more turned off by the nationalist SoCon stuff (Cruz/Paxton) than the traditional religious SoCon stuff (Abbott/Patrick).
