HP?

All I really know is that circa 2011 I watched a documentary on those WTO protests on Netflix and I sided with the riot police. Can't remember why.

Awful protest by awful people for awful reasons. Fortunately, they lost.

Well I wouldn't say awful people necessarily but protectionism harms the average person and also is unnecessary government interference. I don't care of 800/5000 people in Monroe county lose their jobs because of free trade. Their lives shouldn't be given preference over other people's lives through government policy.

well it proves they don't understand economics and probably shouldn't be listened to on a string of subjects.  But "awful person"? no, certainly some potential there for it.  If you combine a love of protectionism with a willingness to throw things at other people and are otherwise down to start some sh**t over your love of protectionism, then yes, those people are for sure awful people.

Yeah this too. My job has been fine, and as far as I'm aware has never been threatened by free trade. So why can't those people who believe their job is at risk from free trade just do something like I do?

Also like you mentioned, it's totally not okay for the government to force 4200/5000 people to pay extra for groceries, consumer goods, etc so that 800 can keep their jobs.

Bad protests. Rather than simply advocate against globalization, they should've advocated principles of performance for multinationals on labor standards, fair trade, & environmental protection needed to counter the negative effects of globalization.

And funnily enough, I was actually born while they were taking place.

Tbf monroe county Ohio just died after losing 25% of its jobs. But it's not fair to have this bs rural elitism.

Those people's jobs meant a lot more to them than whatever money you save on disposable goods as a result of free outsourcing (you don't save any, by the way).
