https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2019/06/26/opinion/sunday/republican-platform-far-right.html

In which we find that the Democrats are basically Labour and the Republicans extremely far right by international conservative standards.

Yes, that can help fraudulent parties like the Democratic party and the Mexican Greens appear more left.

No s***. Our politics has always skewed so far right that it's enough to make your head spin. The rest of the world isn't so much better though, the far-right is on the come-up almost everywhere in the world. We're all f***ed.

It's abundantly clear that the Republican Party is no longer center-right, but simply just a right-wing party.

While the Democrats really are center-left.

The Republican Party used to be understood as center-right when it had the likes of Mark Hatfield, Ed Brooke, Jacob Javits, Hugh Scott, and William Milliken.

There are few moderates, but there are fascists.

I'd say the positioning of the GOP is about accurate, but most of the rest in that chart is bullsh**t. Especially their decision to portray some communists and left-wing socialists as more moderate than social democrats and mainstream greens (and in the case of the Portuguese communists even classical liberals and centrists).

Truly sucks that any generic atlas poster could have done a better job than the people who were presumably paid by the NYT to write this nonsense.

They should have asked 4chan neck beard autist libertarians to do  Nolan charts! Some of those are beautiful. Insane, but easy on the eye and an extremely clear and scary window into the souls of those who write them.

How does a Communist Party represent themselves as centrist?

Nice of someone to finally admit the Dems have been tacking hard left while the GOP hasn't moved much on aggregate.

Jacob Javits is clearly center left not center right .

These conversations never go anywhere, because people who talk about the Democratic Party moving left can rarely see beyond AbOrTiOn, while people who complain about the Democratic Party moving right can't see beyond nEoLiBeRaL.

The GOP has been extreme-right since the 80s, so of course they haven't moved much.

Also, on most issues the Democratic Party was to the left of where it is now back in the New Deal era.

When the NYT prints an article, they're not publishing their best. They're not publishing you. They're publishing people who have a lot of problems and they're bringing those problems with them.
