Just to clarify,  the vote would be for an amendment that would require the White House to get approval from Congress before going to war with Iran.

Assuming Trump is the type of person to go in guns blazing. He's loud and rhetorical, but when you look at his actions he's actually really tame on foreign policy.

Pretty sure that:

1) McConnell knows a war with Iran is likely to be disastrous and lead to a wipeout for the GOP in 2020 2) They don't have the votes to pass this thing
3) McConnell knows this
4) He's allowing it to come to the floor to but the breaks on a strike against Iran, at which point the GOP can turn right around and cry and crow about "APPEASEMENT" and "NEVILLE CHAMBERLAIN"

Trump and McConnell are certainly welcome to try authorizing war when the Democrats control the House.

They're also certainly welcome to try this, but even letting this insane bulls**t come up for a vote is a disastrously bad idea. War in the Middle East is a losing issue with almost every modern voter base that matters in the contest of GOP victory.
