If the United States goes to war again by 2030, on the scale of the Iraq War during the Bush administration (or larger-scale), and it's not with Iran or North Korea... then who is it against?

I highly doubt we'll get into an active "hot" war with Russia, while it possesses hundreds of nuclear weapons...

Probably not but just because we do doesn't mean all or any nuclear weapons will be used.

This is the only possibility IMO. I wouldn't put it past our leaders to start some made up conflict with some other random country full of brown people, though.

Chile - The world's largest reserve of lithium.

What other country openly pontificates about where they will fight wars in the future...

I hope we can liberate Venezuela one day if the people are not able to do it themselves.  Other than that, I don't see any on the Horizon.  The Iran issue will subside.

China or Russia would be nightmarish nuclear wars.

Venezuela or Syria seem most likely.

I was thinking about Pakistan as well. Maybe if Islamsits rise to power and tensions with India rise. But Iraq would look like a cakewalk since Pakistan has a population multiple times of Iraq.

Even Iran would be. Iran has twice the area and economic activity but the half population and Pakistan has nukes. There really isn't that much low hanging fruit left. Trump more or less gave up in Venezuela and Syria. Venezuela could quickly become a Vietnam type situation (at least for a while, being only one $300 JetBlue ticket from home helps against it ). I loathe to think what a war with Iran would be like.

I'm imagining a scenario where the US botches the withdrawal from Afghanistan, the Taliban rises and begins to increase its control in Pakistan. The Pakistani military flips out but the intelligence services do nothing and even encourage the rise in Islamism as a way of flexing their muscles at India. Eventually there's some government collapse/assassination/coup that leads to a civil war and the US and a bunch of other countries intervene to prevent nuclear proliferation to the Islamists.

The Taliban are completely incapable of taking over the Pakistani government unless the population or military actually supported them, which they don't. Pakistan is overshadowed by its much more powerful neighbors, but it is still quite a powerful country militarily, and a few ten thousand ragged afghan pashtun terrorists and their allies are not going to be able to topple the Pak military on their own, no way at all. The Pakistani people and government support Islamic rule, but not the kind the Taliban would bring, their are nuances that completely bar that possibility.
