Surprised we don't have a thread on this.

Washington Post Article

Quote
RICHMOND — Virginia voters go to the polls Tuesday for primaries in a crucial election year when control of the legislature is at stake.

All 140 seats in the legislature will be on the ballot in November. Republicans are trying to hold on to two-seat majorities in both chambers.

Most races already have their candidates set, but Tuesday’s primaries will determine candidates for one or both parties in 18 House districts and 14 Senate districts.

Polls open at 6 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. Virginia primaries are open to any registered voter; membership in a particular party is not required.

Joe Morrissey, disgraced ex-state Delegate who had a relationship with a 17-year old intern and married her when she became an adult, was elected in prison before resigning, and has since lost a Richmond mayor race. He is currently up 58-42 in his primary with 30%.

He's now up 54.5-45.5 with 41% in, but it was all from Manassas City. Prince William County has yet to report.

Wow folks, we could have something here!

Hmm maybe the RINOs finally became Democrats are uncomfortable with borderline socialists but will still happily vote for them in the general?

Atlas told me upscale suburbanites LOVE socialism, though!

Do they love it?

Of course not.

Will they still vote D just like Missouri populists vote R?

Yes

Here’s the thing: Manassas was supposed to be Wolfe’s base. He’s a city councilman there.

Along with Morrissey winning the primary (and basically the general in this uber dem seat), the other upset so far is Paul Milde unseating Bob Thomas on the Republican side. He won the primary from the right, pushing back on Thomas's moderation, something in line with the modern VA GOP...except this is a marginal seat.

Saslaw has increased his lead slightly to a little more than 5%, however, there is still a considerable amount of votes left.

LMAO this guy's history is hillarious. This guy is literally the Democrat Roy Moore.

Also imagine if there is a GOP wave in Virginia this year and they manage to have a 20-20 senate still Democrat by some miracle then this guy would be the most powerful Democrat in the senate.

You're right, I forgot about that. Damn, maybe he'll retire to run for Governor in 2021.

And guess what? the district is bluer then Alabama and I'm not even sure the Republicans have a candidate. So the VA dems will have a loyal vote in their midst who touched kids. Just great.

Ce n’est pas possible! I was told VA could become a tossup if SoCiUlIsT Sanders becomes the Dem nominee since as we all know the voters have such well developed ideological belief systems.

Wonder if Morrissey did better with the black voters than with white and vice versa for Dance.

Would have to look at all of the precincts in this district but Morrissey won Petersburg with 72% in an 80% black city. That was Dance’s home turf and certainly gave Morrissey the win.

He almost certainly did. A poll from the 2016 Richmond mayoral race showed him winning blacks with 50% of black voters but only getting 4% of white voters. His black support is INSANE.

Also Saslaw won the non white areas but lost the #resist white areas in his senate district.
