https://www.cnn.com/2019/06/11/politics/oregon-donald-trump-campaign-election-2020/index.html

Quote
The Trump campaign is considering putting resources into Oregon, CNN has learned, a state where Hillary Clinton beat the President by 11 percentage points in 2016.

In fact, Oregon is so blue that it has not voted for a Republican for president since 1984. But the Trump campaign is flush with cash and is looking for ways to spend its money and time wisely while Democrats duke it out for the chance to run against President Donald Trump.

CNN obtained a memo to the Trump campaign from pollster Tony Fabrizio about ideas for "expanding the map" to give the President more options for getting the 270 electoral votes needed to win the re-election, where he mentions looking at Oregon.

In the memo, Fabrizio maintains that New Hampshire, New Mexico and Nevada -- all states that Trump lost in 2016 -- are now "highly competitive." Those are three states where the Trump campaign already has resources on the ground.

It'd be a great investment, Clinton barely got over 50% of the votes. If you add up all the Johnson/write-in votes to Trump's column, a couple of independents, he could be withn 4-2 points away from winning the state.

NM and OR?????

Let's go back to spending in NY (the Rockefeller Republicans ❤️ the GOP) and California (didn't it vote for Kerry by less than 10%), oh and don't forget Perennial GOP stronghold NJ

❤️ Coastal former RINOs ❤️

In all seriousness, this is a dumb strategy, and Trump is wasting valuable resources in Safe D states, that 2000 or 2004 was our last good shot at.

Pretty foolish.

But I was thinking the other day... is it possible that team trump spending money in CO/NM/VA/MN actually a good strategy for putting the Dems on the defensive and divert resources there?

Naturally, the media will still portray CO/VA swing states because of course they will, even though we know better.

There's definitely a base of Obama-Trump WWC voters in Coastal OR/ the nothern Willamette valley but not enough to flip the state.

I'm honestly a little surprised that Trump is aware that Oregon is a state. Hard to think of a state that's so much different from his personality and his interests.

In a WTA system yes that is a waste of money. With the exception of MN Dems won't have to do very much defense there because Republicans are not popular and the the limited base of voters to mobilize isn't as big as the margins they'll have to overcome.

edit: also looking forward to beautiful Atlas-Red Deschutes County in November 2020 😍

I mean, I think it's worth investing in states everywhere, since realistically anything can happen. Nobody would have expected Indiana or Virginia to go Democrat in 2005. But it's foolish for an Atlas user to think Trump can win Oregon.

I see the Trump campaign has read the fantasies of some Atlas Republicans. Anyway, great news! I'm glad Trump will be lighting money on fire to contest a state that hasn't been competitive in well over a decade, and is showing zero signs of trending Republican, despite muh demuhgrafix

Damn, was hoping for some D-OR or S-OR avatars ... literally nothing infuriates an Atlas partisan from a state that leans one way or the other than insinuating their state can be won by the other party, haha.

If he really goes for this "expand the map" strategy he's going to be at serious risk of losing in a similar fashion to Clinton in 2016. this is the same failed strategy she implemented.

It's probably a great state to build new golf courses though. He can pre-scout locations for his kids while pretending to campaign. It could also be that he's trying to asymmetrically go for the popular vote this election, believing (it may be impossible for him to convince himself he could lose at this point) that he already has the electoral college wrapped up.

Well, Bush did almost beat Gore in the state.  Gore carried Michigan and Pennsylvania by much more, and Trump won those states.  So with simple logic, Trump should be able to win Oregon too.  Duh!

What a bunch of ing idiots !! Yeah, some parts of Oregon are trending R (Douglas + Coos + Josephine + Linn) but Multnomah + Washington county are making unfortunately the state Safe D and it would be really foolish to contest this state especailly when things are not looking good in the Upper Midwest which will be the key area in 2020

IMHO it will come down to the crucial Nader voters disaffected by Democrats to put Trump over the top in Oregon.

Clearly, this is just like Wisconsin, which was a SAFE D  state before 2016 and is now TRUMP COUNTRY.

I imagine a Democratic version of this as putting money in Alaska or South Carolina.

Alaska is a better reach for Ds than Oregon is for Rs. SC sounds about right.

Portland suburbia was fine with neo liberal Hillary in 2016, but if the Dems put up Crazy Bernie in 2020, Portland suburbia will revolt and vote Republican due to #SOCIALISM.
