I remember reading about his first successful US Senate campaign in 1984: his team ran an ad featuring a bloodhound searching for the incumbent Senator, implying "where is he?" and that the incumbent had missed a lot of votes. McConnell was elected by a very narrow margin, in a year when Reagan carried KY by 21 points.

He's been around Washington far too long, IMHO.

McConnell is a master of close elections.

Future historians will call the period of "decline of the American Republic" as the "age of McConnell".

My least favorite elected Republican, and that's really saying something.

The damage he's done to democracy is far worse than anything Trump could ever do, barring starting WW3 or sending minorities to concentration camps or something.

I think he's a relic and should be replaced by a newer, bolder generation of conservatives. But he's not terrible and I would prefer he be the boogeyman for the left and not other people.

There's only one Senator right now that had the courage to march with MLK as a white man. There's only one Senator right now who has completely changed America's political landscape and rewritten the lay of the land. There's only one Senator that deserves to be President.

There's only one question: Do you support him?

HP, he is responsible for much of our current government dysfunction and public mistrust of political institutions like the Senate.

Irredeemable HP. The biggest example of what is wrong with American politics today.

People who pretend that the GOP was somehow "reasonable" before "Trump hijacked it" clearly forgets those eight years of Republican obstructionism for the obstructionism's sake under McConnell.

Not good at all.

And no, I do not want the next Democratic president to try to play patty cakes with him. Instead, the next Democratic president should aggressively stand up to and fight him.

If future historians ever have cause to write The Decline and Fall of the American Republic, McConnell's picture will be on the cover.

More destructive than Nixon, Reagan, Gingrich, or Cheney.

Ousting him should be a greater objective than defeating Trump.

Cutthroat in the extreme. Wrecks institutional norms for the sake of maximizing his agenda.

I wouldn't say more destructive, but he is up there. Or down there, as in "there's a special place in Hell."

Considering that MLK would have turned 90 this year...
