Hillary Clinton campaign staffer teases idea of Gubernatorial campaign.

I mean, maybe? Genius political move by the NY Democratic Party if they could recruit her to be the savior of the office. Puts any AOC/Teachout/Nixon hopes dead on arrival as well. Party might even cancel the primary in that case.

Hillary would win the general, but she'd lose the primary.

The base hates her more than Cuomo.

Would be a downgrade for Hill. She went from being the 2020 Dem Nominee for President to a NY gov?? She'd win but like...

OTOH Mitt Romney lost in 2012 and went on to become a senator so...

Only one group of people ultimately matters in Democratic primaries and GEs for that matter and it's the mainstream media. Hillary's achilles heel has always been that the MSM hates her; they even got Trump elected obsessing over her emails. Unless that changes, Hillary's political career wont' resurrect. She can have 70% approvals today but when MSNBC is done with her she'll be toxic. I said this before her presidential run too...

Poetic karma for all of those asses who told her to go away while, for some reason, never telling Romney to do the same.

I really don’t see why Hillary would want to run through a bruising battering primary (that she’d win). I can easily see some progressive (Biaggi, Jones, Williams, Nixon, Teachout…) and it’d be a mess

Hillary would have to be insane to run for NY Gov.  Can you imagine how badly the media would want her to lose.  We'd be reaching into British tabloid tier hostility and BS-peddling.  It doesn't matter that the race is just NY-Gov, the entire media would treat it like a presidential race because Hillary losing would be such a big scalp for the media to claim.  The right would be full-on Hillary Derangement Syndrome for an entire year.

Also, she's 73 and properly retired, and for the most part the media has left her alone.  If she "un-retires" and does a surprise run for office, then the rest of her life is going to be spent drowning in speculation about another surprise run.

Hillary Clinton, at the very least, is a Democrat, so that will work.

I'm on the fence because I think it would be genuinely hilarious to see the right wing reaction to Governor Hillary Clinton, but at the same time...no, god, please, no. No more.

I raised the idea of a HRC candidacy some months ago in a separate thread. But it's not happening. It's either going to be Hochul succeeding to office upon Mr. Cuomo's removal or last minute resignation and likely winning a full term; or if Mr. Cuomo somehow survives into next year, he'll get successfully primaried by James. Hochul or James then go on beating Zeldin anywhere between 15 and 20 pts.

And in, y'know, last year's presidential primary that Bernie definitely won because the base is almost all supporters of his.

NewYorkExpress is plain wrong. The Dem base is not even remotely Sanders supporters. If anything the base is center-left libs, black voters, non-haredim jews etc. Not self-identified socialists.

Again... yall just get on here and say things with little regard to accuracy or respecting reality.

Does anyone really think that Hillary Clinton wants anything to do with electoral politics anymore after 2016? I thought we were done with this after the 2020 Democratic primaries. She's done, and she knows it. At most she'll endorse and fund-raise. But that's it.

Might be a bold take around here but I'd see a Hochul/Biaggi primary being competitive. Given the relative unpopularity of Lieutenant Governor races, I could easily see Biaggi gaining some online traction on the left and capitalizing on it. Comptroller - I'd probably put her as a favorite because DiNapoli is probably one of the most boring people in all of NYS politics.

It would be interesting for Alessandra Biaggi to run for lt. governor with incumbent Governor Kathy Hochul at the top of the ticket. An all female ticket with one elder, experienced mainstream Democrat and a younger more progressive running mate. This would be a pretty balanced ticket and make history.

Governor Hochul could either appoint Biaggi already lt. governor after replacing Cuomo or she appoints a placeholder who's not running in his own right and endorse Biaggi for the lt. gubernatorial nomination. I doubt this will happen, but it would be exciting. All three highest statewide elected officials would be female then (Hochul, Biaggi and James).

Guys, Cuomo isn't going to resign, be impeached, or lose the primary. Get over it. The general election is a tossup.

He's certainly going to be impeached.

And once impeached, he's certainly gonna be convicted if/when necessary too. This isn't D.C. Trump controlled primary outcomes to such an extent that Senate Republicans had no choice but to "exonerate" him. The same can't be said for NY Senate Democrats: Cuomo is so unpopular now that they no longer have to fear him, & they want him gone. So, he will be.
