Groan. Republicans want to end democracy and make Trump our Dear Leader for life and Democrats pull sh**t like this that nobody save a microscopic group of terminal online woke dolts think is even remotely not a bad idea.

Thankfully, I doubt this misstep will change many minds tomorrow. It will be ignored by the vast majority of people, and that's a good thing.

This doesn't make me regret voting for her by any means. But like, seriously?

Whitmer is overrated as a national candidate for sure. She comes across as a stereotypical "elitist liberal"

I can guarantee you all that Gretchen Whitmer not using the word "women" is not very high on the list of priorities for Michigan voters. Let's stop pretending average Americans actually care about these sort of things.

Just because you say so?

My goodness. Unless they are disloyal to Trump, Republican voters don't bash their own politicians like this or even care how they are perceived.

It sucks that Republicans can be as terrible as possible but if a Democratic politician says something maybe slightly "elitist" (whatever this means) - it's suddenly the end of the world.

Every politics junkie's weird obsession with constantly declaring anything related to trans people as an "elitist concern" is totally detached from reality. In the real world trans people are one of the most constantly disparaged and attacked groups in this country, and certainly far from being "elites."

Michigan Democrats absolutely crushed it last night. Statewide races, congressional races, state legislative races, the propositions… could not have asked for anything more. Super excited to see what it’s like to live under a Democratic trifecta that can actually make some progress!

I missed this on election night but looks like Prop 2 in Michigan passed comfortably by 60-40. Prop 2 is related to voting related policies.

From Ballotpedia -

A “yes” vote supported adding several election and voting-related policies to the Michigan Constitution, including some policies that exist in statute and others which would be new. Proposal 2 added the following policies to the state constitution:

• creating a nine-day early voting period;

• requiring voters to present photo identification or sign an affidavit when voting in person or applying for an absentee ballot;

• requiring that military and overseas ballots postmarked by election day are counted;

• providing voters with a right to request an absentee ballot;

• requiring the state to fund prepaid stamps and a tracking system for absentee ballots

• requiring the state to fund a number of absentee ballot dropboxes;

• providing that local governments can accept charitable and in-kind donations to assist with running elections as long as donations are disclosed and aren’t from foreign entities; and

• providing that election officials are responsible for election audits, requiring election audits to be conducted in public, and requiring election results to be certified based on votes cast.

Proposal 2 also added constitutional language saying that "harassing, threatening, or intimidating conduct," as well as laws, regulations, and practices, that have "the intent or effect of denying, abridging, interfering with, or unreasonably burdening the fundamental right to vote" are prohibited.

Any word on when the Michigan legislature will pass the Interstate Compact?

That would bring its total to 220 with Minnesota, and with Nevada down the road it guarantees no pop-vote-winning Dem ever gets fewer electors than Clinton.

I don't think that's true cause afaik it only goes into effect once the amount of states that have signed it goes above 270 electoral votes.

That being said it's absolutely a good thing that we're getting closer and closer.

It would almost certainly be declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court once a Republican leaning state bothers to sue.
