A witch or wizard casts a spell on your country and makes it so that you are politically centrist in relation to the political parties and people of your country, while your views are unchanged.

What does the next election look like and how does your country, and indeed the world, change?

Note that:

*The average intelligence of a typical voter does not go up (or down)

*Politicians who you dislike for reasons other than your ideological views are not negatively effected by your dislike of them.

*You can't directly change a country that is not your own.

*Most importantly, there is still competition within politics - your favorite candidate might be successful depending on how their views align with yours but they won't win unanimously. Unless of course your ideology doesn't support competition between ideas.

There is no "next election" or "typical voter."

So the right wing party would be like irritating centrist Democrats and the left wing party would be pretty abrasive and annoying leftists, and possibly tankies. Both would still be insufferable.

On social issues, healthcare, entitlements, welfare, taxes, etc., the nation moves sharply right

On guns, it moves sharply left

On climate change, science, and education, it moves moderately left

Overall, I am a right-leaning moderate

The nation moves right, but at the same time, it’s not the Trumpist brand, establishment Republicans win most elections

I'd overall be pretty happy, but I don't know if I could live with myself knowing that I'm a centrist.

So basically, it's The New Deal Era again, only without the Jim Crow elements and more environmentally friendly than ever before.

...Works for me.

If my views were centrist, I would imagine that this would pretty much have to be a future where abortion was universally looked back on with horror (like we do with slavery) and the vast majority of the population was evangelical.

Essentially, we would have one party that was socially and economically conservative, but culturally liberal, and another that was conservative on all three groups of issues.  Like one party would be calling for open borders while the other would be calling for deportations.  I'm somewhere in between those two extremes.  There would also perhaps be some dissension on foreign policy and maybe whether the one situation where government involvement in the economy is OK is for pro-family benefits and tax policies.  Maybe whether we have a tax at all would be debated too, as would whether to make Evangelical Christianity the official religion of the United States, while still allowing individual freedom of religion.  So, there would still be plenty of debates.

I guess the right wing party would be like some weird mixture of Sunrise and Hillgoose, while the left wing party would be similar to Parrotguy?

Basically if I'm a centrist then Nikki Haley and Liz Cheney would be centrists with a slight left lean, right-wing will basically be John McAfee, and far-left would be some sort of hyper-urbanization neoliberals.

So basically probably three parties-

Centrist/Center-Left party that is super hawkish on foreign policy, small government economic policy, and libertarian social policy.

Right wing party that is pretty much just ancap. Probably more peaceful on foreign policy for the sole reason that replacing the US dollar with Bitcoin would eliminate taxation so no military funding.

Far leftist party that is pretty much just a very urban-centric neoliberal party that wants to turn the entire US into something resembling Tokyo.

If my views were centrist I fear we would all be annihilated by nuclear warfare within the week.

The right-wing party would probably be like Joe Biden and Bill Clinton and the left-wing party might wind up being like Monica Moorehead. Maybe a centrist party for the Paul Wellstones and Russ Feingolds of the world rises up.

I guess the left would basically become the right-wing caricature of the left, a horde of #woke Twitter users calling for pure socialism, the literal abolition of borders, banning any vehicles which were not purely electric, a heavy carbon tax, raising taxes on the wealthy to 90%, banning guns and melting them down, abolition of all charter schools and standardized testing, teachers getting paid more than doctors/lawyers, etc.

The right wing would basically be Manchin/Sinema types.

Wallonia:
PVDA-PTB 33,2%
Ecolo 21,3%
PS 17,2%
PP 10,2%
MR 8,7%
CdH 8,2%
DierAnimal 6,0%
European Spring 3,4%
Gilets jaunes 3,3%
Wallonie Insoumise 3,1%
La Droite 2,7%

Flanders:
Flemish Interest 19,1%
PVDA-PTB 14,2%
Groen 12,0%
N-VA 11,2%
CD&V 9,2%
Open VLD 7,2%
s.pa 6,0%
LDD (libertarianism) 5,9%
Pirate Party Belgium 5,3%
DierAnimal 4,1%
Referendumpartij 3,2%

I would still be far-left in this party system, but this is already so unrealistic haha. I just created something that i liked more, traditional establishment parties losing, while anti-establishment parties win, making a government to create harder, and other parties resorting to cooperating with far-left or indirectly enacting measures likes referendums and direct democracy.

If the election threshold was 3% (which i want), i would want a government: Referendumpartij, DierANimal, Wallonie Insoumise, European Spring, Gilets jaunes, Pirate Party Belgium, LDD, PVDA-PTB, Ecolo-Groen and possibly PS-s.pa if we don't have enough yet. A coalition of anti-establishment, left-wing (and one right-wing populist) parties, advocating direct democracy, animal rights, freedom and investments in housing, climate and healtcare.

Overall, I think the right would be pretty much Macron-like people while the left would be very hard left people only one step before full communism.

Basically if I'm a centrist then Nikki Haley and Liz Cheney would be centrists with a slight left lean, right-wing will basically be John McAfee, and far-left would be some sort of hyper-urbanization neoliberals.

While I disagree with your views by a lot, for some reason I find that world really fun. I would love to be one of those far-leftists who want to turn the entire US into something resembling Tokyo Tongue

The Democrats become out-and-out democratic socialists. The left wing of the party are Marxists, while the more centrists are on par with the progressive wing of the Democratic party. The Republicans are a liberal party that probably looks a lot like En Marche. The centrist wing of the party is around the political disposition of today's moderate Democrats. The conservative wing would be on par with the European center-right or the pre-Trump Republicans.

Here's a hypothetical 2020 election:

Democrats: Sen. Bernie Sanders/Rep. Linda Sarsour 49.9%
Republicans: Former Gov. Mike Bloomberg/Sen. Susan Collins 46.3%
Centrist third party: Former Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand/Former Rep. Pete Buttigieg 2.1%
Left-wing third party: Former Rep. Assata Shakur/Activist Lorenzo Kom'boa Ervin 0.9%
Right-wing third party: Former State Rep. Rick Perry/Activist Tomi Lahren 0.3%

For this scenario, I'm going to pretend the question was asked in 2017.

Republicans lose en masse in the 2018 elections as the country suddenly and inexplicably repudiates both Trump and the conservative legacy of Ronald Reagan. After the release of the Mueller Report, Congress impeaches and removes Trump from office. The party splits over healthcare reform, with some favoring a public option and some favoring Medicare For All.

Rather than attempting to take on Sanders and Warren in the primary, Biden launches his own party. The Liberal Party draws in a mix of centrist and establishment-oriented Democrats, as well as some former Republicans (whose party label is now almost disqualifying for most voters) hoping to stay in office and/or defeat. The remaining Democrats are renamed as the Progressive Party.

Stacey Abrams surprisingly upsets both Sanders and Warren in the Progressive Primary, largely due to her youth and status as an African-American female. She selects  Biden overcomes a half-hearted challenge from Beto O'Rourke to win the Liberal primary, and he selects Kamala Harris as his running mate. Benefiting from Obama's endorsement and a perception that the Progressives have gone a little too far to the left, Biden wins 350 electoral votes and the Liberals take majorities in both houses of Congress.

The new congress implements a healthcare plan that essentially makes everyone eligible for Medicare, paying for it largely through a carbon tax, a new 50% tax bracket on top earners, and a reduction of military spending down to 3% of GDP. More controversially, they pass a bill that grants a pathway to citizenship for most illegal immigrants residing in the country, but also reduces legal immigration. Capitalizing on discontent over social issues, the Progressive Party wins control of Congress in the 2022 elections.
