Was 2006 or 2016 more conservative?

2006 was more socially conservative, keeping with the modern trend of every succeeding year being more socially liberal than the former; but 2016 was more prosperous for the right worldwide, with the resurgence of seemingly dead former nationalist and populist figures and movements.

This mostly.  The 2 most viable interpretations of recent history in the US/developed world are 1. Things have been getting continuously more conservative since ~1980 (if you prioritize economic issues).  1. Things have been getting continuously more liberal since WWII ended, with a possible turning point 2016-present (if you prioritize social issues).

The 1980s too were so conservative with the Reagan Revolution, Theresa May in the United Kingdom and Brian Mulroney in Canada, notably.

Speaking as a Canadian, it's really quite misleading to lump in Mulroney with Reagan and Thatcher. I see this done a lot, I'm guessing because he was a Conservative who held office in the 1980s, but the issue is was much much more moderate than either of them. To give 2 examples, Mulroney is often called "Canada's Greenest Prime Minister" (in fact, current Green Party leader Elizabeth May served as an advisor to Mulroney), and he did little to break the backs of labour.

She's closer to the centre than say, the Australian Greens or the American Greens, but she's still a greenie, and Mulroney adopting her as a senior advisor speaks to the sort of thing I'm talking about.

i think between decades the definition of conservative has shifted, imo 2006 seems more conservative but maybe it's just the differing rhetoric between dubya and Trump.
