People seem to be over-looking the wide-spread disenfranchisement of Republican voters (of both races)
No there wasn't.  Maybe 10-15 years later, granted, but not during reconstruction.

No there wasn't.  Maybe 10-15 years later, granted, but not during reconstruction.

Not during early reconstruction, but during the late part there definitely was. The KKK was in existence at that time and I don't think they were drinking tea in their spare time.

Yes, Tilden. I believe the establishment never would have made the deal to remove federal troops from the South if they didn't have something to lose. It was quite a compromise on the Republican's part.
