https://www.cnbc.com/video/2016/03/30/trump-some-form-of-punishment-needed-for-abortion.html

It basically stated that women who get abortions should be punished.
This one is old but Im just wondering what you think about the logic of the statement. Don't analyze this from a pro choice/pro life position but rather the logic aka that if abortion is banned and it is murder then women who get abortions should be punished.

For example I vote FS here even if I am pro choice to a degree because of the fact that if abortion = murder than it makes sense to punish the murderer.

Obviously reasonable and necessary if one starts with given that abortion is murder. That said, statements cannot just be lifted out of the context of reality, and abortion is not logically comparable to murder even if one considers a fetus morally equivalent to a born human.

Okay, maybe Mike Johnson is a competent parliamentarian.

It's a perfectly sensible statement if one sees the justice system as a sort of automat that mechanically accepts nickels (immoral or socially deviant actions) and dispenses prepared food (rigidly consequent punishments) without regard for motive, degree of subjective culpability, or social or cultural context. It's an abhorrent statement if one doesn't see the justice system that way, and for one brief shining moment back when Trump originally said it, it looked as if most people agreed on that.
