Soaring drug prices from both branded and generic manufacturers have sparked outrage and investigations in the United States. The criticism has come from across the political spectrum, from President Donald Trump, a Republican, to progressive Democrats including U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren, who is running for president.

The 20 drug companies engaged in illegal conspiracies to divide up the market for drugs to avoid competing and, in some cases, conspired to either prevent prices from dropping or to raise them, according to the complaint by 44 U.S. states, filed on Friday in the U.S. District Court in Connecticut.

...

The situation worsened in 2012, the complaint said.

“Apparently unsatisfied with the status quo of ‘fair share’ and the mere avoidance of price erosion, Teva and its co-conspirators embarked on one of the most egregious and damaging price-fixing conspiracies in the history of the United States,” the complaint said.
Terrible, we need stronger mechanisms to identify and administer penalties earlier in these types of cartel deals. This is massive theft of the American people; we can neither get smaller companies to give out generic drugs for cheap nor escape insane markups without having to go to the border.

Drug cartels are powerful news at 11. I’m pretty sure they control at least one state directly.

The head of the U.S. House of Representative’s oversight panel on Wednesday called on three drugmakers to turn over documents as part of an ongoing congressional review over generic drug price increases and accused the companies of “apparent efforts to stonewall” the investigation . Yes

On further court cases on opioids, a bunch of companies reached a settlement to avoid court by a $260 million price tag. We need action and regulation to stop these companies giving peanuts when they are complicit and guilty in the death of people.

You would think they were members of the government with the power to regulate prices and put in price controls or something.

I read the opioid overdoses are anywhere from 400,000-500,000 people since this crisis started. Imagine killing nearly half a million people with powerful addictive drugs, profiting, and getting a slap on the wrist for it.

Even I support going after these corrupt pharma corporations for all they can pay and then some. This shouldn't surprise anyone.

Nobody’s told you??

... Well, I won’t be the bearer of the bad news, at least.
