IIRC Sullivan is a pragmatic pro-business councillor, while Green is a councillor who is also a former US citizen who fled here to dodge the draft during the war in Vietnam who hoped to ride the coattails of retiring popular mayor Larry Campbell.

Council results with 171/172 reporting:

Elected: 10 at-large members
Candidate Party Votes
 ANTON, Suzanne NPA 60356
 LADNER, Peter NPA 57948
 CAPRI, Kim NPA 52465
 LOUIE, Raymond P. VVN 52280
 STEVENSON, Tim VVN 50979
 BALL, Elizabeth NPA 50673
 CHOW, George VVN 50611
 CADMAN, David COPE 50549
 DEAL, Heather VVN 50026
 LEE, B.C. NPA 49892

Well the city council race wasn't so bad. The NPA only won 5 of 10 seats. Unfortunately, it is a majority with the mayor Sad

btw nice map Smiley It's not as good as my Ottawa mayoral election maps though Wink

I don't think we have parties here in local politics, or if we do, I couldn't find any information about them at all.

Yes, I am pretty sure you do have parties in Victoria. Burnaby and Surrey do as well as Vancouver.

One of the parties is the left wing Victoria Civic Electors, which ran Ben Isitt for mayor. I'm not sure which party Alan Lowe is in.

Well, if there are parties, their prominence is minimal, as I've never seen any reference to them at all.

I don't know about that, I've heard about them all the way over here in Ottawa Smiley

By the way, I take it you two didn't bother to vote?

Well, you apparently have more references to them displayed than we do here. Tongue

No.  My mayor won by acclamation and I really don't even know what he or the Saanich Council does.  Local politics here doesn't really interest me all that much.

My 16th birthday comes on Wednesday, BTW. That explains why I didn't vote. Smiley

Sad I am always saddened when people don't vote. Oh well.

I look at it this way:

- The whole point of democracy is to put people in charge who accurately represent the views and desires of the population at large.

- I honestly don't care about these races one bit and therefore would be completely uninformed were I to vote.

Therefore, if I voted, I would actually likely be going against the purpose of democracy because, were someone elected due to me, that person might not accurately represent the views and desires of the population at large because he or she was elected by someone who really doesn't care.

I think that, if you're going to vote, you owe it to the constituency to care about the race and to be informed on voting day.  I don't care about the race; therefore, I chose not to vote so as not to dilute democracy.

Yeah, they are a dim candle-flame compared to the tripartite scorched-earth warfare in Albuquerque. Tongue
