  2. Atlasia the Beautiful has much more patriotic meaning to most Atlasians than the current national anthem, having influenced many important aspects of modern Atlasian culture.
  3. Atlasia should not have a national anthem that is sung to the tune of the national anthem belonging to a country we fought for independence from.

(b) DESIGNATION

The composition consisting of the words and music known as Atlasia the Beautiful shall be considered the national anthem of the Republic of Atlasia.

At least people have heard of My Country 'Tis of Thee. While I agree we should change the anthem, changing it to a song that everyone associates with 1960s infomercials is, in my opinion, not the way to go. I would personally prefer America the Beautiful.

I agree with doing away with My Country Stole Tis of Thee, but maybe we should hold a referendum?

It wouldn't make much sense for us to have a national anthem that includes "America" considering this is not America. Unless we are to change the song itself to say "Atlasia".

It's also worth noting that Battle Hymn of the Republic is much more than just some 1960s infomercial, as Razze has disrespectfully put it.

It inspired the titles of John Steinbeck's The Grapes of Wrath and John Updike's In the Beauty of the Lilies.

Parts of the song also appeared in several of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr
's sermons and speeches, most notably his How Long, Not Long speech after the Selma to Montgomery march, and his final speech before his assassination, I've Been to the Mountaintop.

I'd be in favor of a referendum, but it is saddening to see a fellow representative show this much disrespect to a well known song that has great meaning to our nation and clearly meant a great deal to one of our nation's greatest civil rights leaders.

OK, I think the next step is to determine which songs will be on the referendum and how it will be conducted - my recommendation would be to have it concurrent with the June federal elections, it doesn't need to be a separate vote. If my plan to enact anarchy and abolish the presidential election in June is successful, this means we'll still have an exciting election to follow.
