The word “troll” is used way too liberally on this forum. Pretty much everyone with a blue avatar is constantly called a troll. It’s like the way “socialist” and “fascist” are used in real life.

Most people would have a very hard time justifying their political views if they were actually put under heavy scrutiny, and this is true regardless of where one is on the political spectrum.

This is due to people picking political views of their personal feelings and beliefs instead of actual fact.

Imagine being delusional enough to believe that it's remotely possible to base all of your political views solely on "facts" without any input from 'personal beliefs or feelings'.

Where did I imply that? I definitely have some political positions which I base on beliefs. But if one really, really grilled me on this positions, I would have to admit at a certain point, there are at least partially based on my personal beliefs which I cannot prove.

But of course, many would deny this themselves.

Any normative statement must by its very nature be justified by something else beyond mere factual claims. You can't derive an ought from an is.

People who actually believe their politics are "just based on facts" are the most ignorant of all.

Where did i deny this?

Calling for the death penalty to be used for any crimes less bad than murder should not be classified as political speech, but as hate speech, and should be punished as such wherever hate speech is punished.

So in other words, not punished at all?

If trans activists themselves can’t agree on issues relating to gender, then they can’t get mad at people who aren’t trans activists disagreeing with them on issues relating to gender.

The Holy Roman Empire was a legitimate successor state to the Roman Empire.

Studies have shown that the guarantee of punishment, not the severity of it, deters crime.

I would gladly cut prison sentences to 1/5th-1/10th of what they are right now if it meant we got to a 95%* clearance rate for violent crime. But, if you’re arresting/putting everyone who commits a violent crime in prison, even if it’s for a short amount of time, then you’re going to have a whole lot of people in prison.

The good news is that with such a high chance of getting caught, not only will less crime will be committed, but there will also be less criminals, meaning less people in prison overall.

*Right now, it’s in the single digits.

How do you propose we increase the conviction rate without violating due process or other constitutional rights? How specifically do you think that the courts are failing in this regard?

I’m not saying I have some foolproof way of catching every criminal without creating a police state. But I will take improvements in the clearance rate, even it means a higher incarceration rate.

NIMBYism is bad in urban areas but it’s very understandable for people who live in rural areas. I’ve lived in an exurban area, and I would hate for it to turn into generic suburb with strip malls and cookie-cutter houses lining up the street.
