NHK World provided live coverage of the Abdication Ceremony from the Imperial Palace. Any thoughts on Emperor Akihito stepping down after 30 years ?

It's a pity that Fumihito had a son in the end.

Okay, maybe Mike Johnson is a competent parliamentarian.

The traditionalists probably would have brought back the cadet branches to add distant male line relatives to the throne. These seem to be the next 2 in line.
