That they lost the primary against this clown should tell you all you need to know about how good they were as candidates

It says that the entire IL Democratic Party gifted Pritzker the governor's mansion as patronage. That's about it.

Won't you say the same for the NJ Democratic Party and wealthy Phil Murphy?

NJ and IL....two boss-run states.

I would say that Murphy at least is a bit further apart from the Nor cross/Sweeny Machine than Pritzker is from the Madigan machine.

Also, Pritzker would have lost if Kennedy was not in the race.

The title of this thread should be changed. If Pritzker resigned Lt. Governor Juliana Stratton would become governor who would be eligible to run for a full term in 2022. There would be no special election.

I've mentioned that as well, but the person, who started this thread hasn't responded yet.

Wow. I cant believe it. Who ever could have seen this coming?

Kirk Dillard is the answer you're looking for

We could have had our Baker or Hogan but instead we get Rauner and this clown.
wait who was running that could have been your "Baker or Hogan"?

Kirk Dillard, 100%. He would have come in knowing how to work with Madigan, who is unfortunately a fixed presence in Illinois politics.

I appreciated the token " you" given to Madigan, FWIW.

Not sure how this is news. I assumed the office of Governor of Illinois had a team of permanent in-house federal investigators, like how the SEC has a floor of offices at all the largest banks.

No he wouldn't, don't be ridiculous. The Chicago black & Hispanic establishment, part of which fell in with Kennedy, is not gonna uniformly back the weird professor from Evanston over the state party's guy. Same for the Daleys.

Rauner didn't have any personal scandals, he was just bad at governing and didn't know how to deal with Madigan.

So bad at governing, in fact, that his administration faced a criminal investigation into his response to an outbreak of Legionella at a veterans' home in Quincy.

The only Dems to lose to GOPers in recent times were Glenn Poshard and Pat Quinn. Pritzker is pretty much safe unless it gets more dicey.

The population of Illinois might be fantastic, but the corruption and political machines they enable to continue in place, by repeatedly voting for the same kind of almost openly dirty politicians, taints a bit my view of the state.

The only Dems to lose to GOPers in recent times were Glenn Poshard and Pat Quinn

And even then the only liberal Democrat who lost anytime recently was Quinn.

George Ryan won in 1998 because he was the more liberal of the 2 candidates, so that wasn't exactly a generic GOP candidate beating a generic Democrat.

Pritzker's $70 million campaign war-chest certainly didn't hurt.

Neither Kennedy nor Biss were very good candidates, but that definitely wasn't the only reason they never had a shot at the nomination.

Yeah true, but that was the 2010 Senate election, I was thinking of gubernatorial elections when I wrote that.

This isn't surprising at all, he was the worst possible person we could've nominated there against Rauner.
