Pritzker under federal investigation

Democratic Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker, his wife and his brother-in-law are under federal criminal investigation for a dubious residential property tax appeal that dogged him during his gubernatorial campaign last year, WBEZ has learned.

A law-enforcement source familiar with the investigation confirmed to WBEZ that the probe, which has not been revealed publicly until now, began last October and remains active. There are no signs that criminal charges are imminent.

Well, some states have special gubernatorial elections (like Oregon, most recently in 2016), but I don't think Illinois belongs to this category.

Rauner was not unpopular until after the Democrats veto-proof supermajority in the state legislature ended in the 2016 elections. The fact that things happened this way says all that a person needs to know on how Hogan won re-election because its common for people to mistake extreme governors as if they are moderates when they are controlled by a veto-proof supermajority for the other party in the state legislature.
