Does Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez have a realistic shot at becoming President in her lifetime?
Let's define "reasonable" as "over 10% chance".

She's proven herself to be politically competent, she is NOT Trumpian and she is an establishment outsider that's young, relatable, sassy, and social media savvy. Her policy positions are EXTREMELY popular, especially with younger voters. As she gets older, she will be seen more as "not way too youmg to be President", and her young supporters will begin to take voting more seriously as they age. It's also likely that climate change will screw us badly, and she will look very smart for having predicted it in 2018 & 2019 as she was ridiculed by conservatives.

She is too young to run in 2020, and the Democrat president will probably run for a 2nd term in 2024. Her realistic shot at President would be 2028 or any time after, unless Trump somehow gets 4 more years. Winning in 2028 would make her the youngest President ever, as well as obviously the first woman President and first hispanic President.

So, what do you think?

Like I said elsewhere, she is perfectly suited for the current anti-establishment political environment.

If this environment persists in 5-10 years, she definitely has a legitimate shot at becoming President.

Lol No,

If she was eligible in 2020 against Trump she would get obliterated (Trump would get 360 EV at the very least and win by at least 6-7 points nationally). Against anyone else she would get obliterated by an even larger margin.

AOC would be toxic in suburban areas in every way possible and set the party back decades

Based on your parameter in your question (at least 10% chance), I had to answer Yes to your poll.
Without your 10% chance, I would have answered No.

Yes, and I think she will be eventually.

Her ideas are becoming more and more mainstream, and as more boomers who are afraid of "socialism" die off and are replaced by minorities and left-leaning white millenials, she should have no problem winning.

Also, the suburbs aren't going to rapidly swing against her because by the time she's running for President, they'll already be Titanium D if current trends continue until then.

Does she have a greater than 10% chance of becoming president one day? Maybe. Does she have a plausible chance of becoming president one day? Yes. Anyone who is 30 years old and is already a prominent national political figure has a decent chance of becoming president one day.

Barring scandal, I definitely think she could emerge as a major presidential contender in the 2020s, 2030s, or even 2040s. She could probably run while serving in the House, but I think she'd almost certainly be a strong presidential contender if she could win election to the Senate or become governor. Given her position on the left-wing of the party, she might have trouble in the general election, but it's also possible that the country moves to the left or she moderates her own views a la Krysten Sinema.

The Suburbs trended D because they weren’t too left wing on economics, if AOC becomes the nominee that will no longer be true

The Suburbs would on social issues right now cause right now both parties support policies that benefit the Suburbs . With AOC that will no longer be true

Not now or in the very near future. The best chance for her is for her to establish policy credentials and ride a wave of anti-establishment feeling up till 2028. By that point her character and branding will be strong enough to win the primaries and the presidency away from an increasingly toxic GOP.

The suburbs are getting more and more diverse, and more educated as well.

They didn't vote for Clinton because they particularly liked her economic policies, they voted for her because they particularly hated Trump and his personality, with dislike for most of his policies probably being secondary.

Look at how well Beto did in the Texas suburbs, and remember he ran on abolishing ICE, Medicare for all, etc.

I don't know if there's any individual I would give 10% odds of becoming president, that's insanely high. It's absolutely something conceivable though.

Yes. Thus far her conduct in drafting legislation and the questioning she's done on Congressional panels has been nothing short of Stellar. This comes as someone who is not at all sold on her. It makes people like beep boop sleeper with fear that their Patron Saint Reagan might have been wrong, and someone like her could actually relate enough to average Americans to pass a staunchly progressive platform.

Honestly, no. She's the product of a particular political environment, much as the Tea Party challengers like David Brat were several years ago. Though there will be room for reformists in the party by that point, probably even more room than there currently is, and though many in her mold might take up the torch, I don't see Ocasio herself being a particularly exciting figure years down the line.

Pretty much anybody has a realistic chance. If the world is still in its populist-fringe stage by the time she's old enough, then yes.

Again Beto and Clinton do not equal AOC not even close

People who support AOC shouldn’t accuse Republicans of living in a fact free world because they are supporting a politician who lives in a fact free world as well.
