The so called populists in the party’s playbook for “winning”. The fact is the Republican establishment does a far better job at choosing winners like 2021 VA showed

If you hate Republican voters so much you can just leave.

Trempealeau County was the only one to flip to Kelly from 2020.

Considering how badly Kelly did in WoW, this is not surprising. Still nice to see, though.

Big vote dump in Milwaukee, and Protasiewicz goes over 1 million votes and is now ahead by almost 200,000 votes.

PROTASIEWICZ WON THE CITY OF WAUKESHA!!!

The Wisconsin GOP is screwed unless they can somehow get the rural to start voting like they do in Iowa. A Democrat getting 40% or more in Waukesha County is lethal.

I imagine Republicans are more likely to try to make it illegal for people in Milwaukee and Madison to vote.

Even worse:

Milwaukee county turnout was pretty bad, casting many fewer votes than Dane County despite almost having twice the population.

Karl Rove on Republicans:
The aide (Karl Rove) said that guys like me were 'in what we call the reality-based community,' which he defined as people who 'believe that solutions emerge from your judicious study of discernible reality.' [...] 'That's not the way the world really works anymore,' he continued. 'We're an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality. And while you're studying that reality—judiciously, as you will—we'll act again, creating other new realities, which you can study too, and that's how things will sort out. We're history's actors...and you, all of you, will be left to just study what we do'.

It seems like its leftward trend is only going to continue.

I wouldn't bet on that outcome at this moment, barring some previously unknown potential source of new votes in her favor.

Possibly in the next Supreme Court election if the GOP campaigns on banning everything they don't like again.

Will Republicans try to impeach a liberal justice before they rule the current map is illegal? About 1/3 of republicans are liable to lose their jobs in the state assebly now.

So is it safe to say that WI is starting to swing back hard towards DEMs. following recent DEM victories in MI, with MN holding solid to protect DEM EV votes in the Upper Midwest for the GE PRES '24?

Swing maps and TO maps should be interesting on this one.

Side question: To what extent female reproductive rights on the ballot or other themes such as labor rights etc which could cause a 10% DEM win in a state which narrowly voted for Bush Jr in '04?

45.71% for Milwaukee County is very good for them! It's just that Dane County is insane at 62.1%.

They can try but it would be such a partisan move there would be mass protests. Secondly Evers would get to pick a replacement judge and if I were in his position I’d say you remove them I’ll just reappoint them.

So apparently there is this line in the impeachment section of the Wisconsin constitution "No judicial officer shall exercise his office, after he shall have been impeached, until his acquittal."  There is also a state law that says "A judicial officer is a person authorized to act as a judge in a court of justice."

It's possible this means Justice P would lose their vote on cases as soon as a majority of the Assembly impeaches, pending the outcome of a Senate trial (that might intentionally be delayed or never held).  However, Justice P could still resign after an impeachment, and the lose your powers upon impeachment language seems to only cover judges, so I don't think impeaching Evers first would prevent him from appointing a replacement.  But I suppose there's also the extreme possibility of serial daily impeachment before anyone can fill the 7th seat long enough to rule on anything?  This is all very complicated and arcane.  Hopefully it doesn't come to any of this, and if it does, Wisconsin elections lawyers will have to sort it out.

Kelly is an awful candidate who lost by over 10 in 2020 under the backdrop of the Democratic Presidential Primary, and lost by 10 again this year under the backdrop of abortion. Maybe the main problem is that he’s just a horrific candidate.

I would advise against people extrapolating too much from this result for this reason.

Who is the non-awful candidate the GOP is going to nominate in 2024? The guy facing 34 felony counts? Who caused this abortion disaster with his SCOTUS appointments in the first place?
