Okay, maybe Mike Johnson is a competent parliamentarian.

Speaking for my family and my family alone, I’d say we never had it so good. But I’m self-aware enough to know that not everyone has been touched by this Prosperity. But my dad’s business is basically recession proof as it is.

As a whole, the US economy has largely been mired in a boom-bust cycle for decades. The boom is happening now, with the bust sure to follow.

It's not particularly bad, but I'll be surprised if we don't have a recession soon. We have all the traditional markers of an impending recession, including an inverted yield curve, but they do sometimes have false positives. Still, between that, the length of the current good times, and the uncertainties arising from Brexit and Trump's trade shenanigans, I expect to have a recession starting late this year or early next year. What's uncertain is how long and how deep a recession it will be.

Two Americas and a Chinese market of goods. We dont make anything in America no more. Massive SSA debt and student loans debt. But, the economy is good, because at 3.8 % we got part time and minimum wage jobs

Hell yes it is!

People who are unemployed right now must literally be trying to avoid a job.

At a macro level, yes it technically is by the typical measures. Speaking for myself and my family though, we are actually much worse off now than we were during the recession. That's due to a litany of factors, but the fact remains that grading the economy is more subjective than we all may think it is.

America manufactures more now than at any point in history.  We need a lot less dumb people to do it, and for some dumb people, that's a big problem.

Yes. I live in Appalachia. The chronically unemployed people here are losers who refuse to take personal responsibility for their lives and prefer to blame everyone else for their problems.

cyclically Yes, structurally No.

This basically. Then again, we've had three prior periods of growth (83-90, 91-01, 02-07) where things were cyclically good but structurally bad as well. What happens when the structure finally gives out?
