Should noncitizens vote in American elections? Obviously hell no, but I don't know why some far-left Democrats think that they should.

It's as worse as some far-right Republicans thinking that only white males should own land and they should vote.

I could see permanent residents being given the ability to vote in local elections, but that's about it, and it's not something I'd bother making an effort to achieve.

I voted yes.

Green Card holders who are permanent residents should be allowed to vote. Kind of silly they can't but people who hold US citizenship but do not reside in the US can.

I like what San Francisco does, where noncitizen parents are allowed to vote in school board elections -- they may not be citizens, but they're certainly as invested in the well-being of the school system as any other parent.

This is like...the maximum possible degree to which this should be done.

Certainly not in federal elections.

I don't see why legal permanent residents who meet some requirement (passing a citizenship test, perhaps) shouldn't be allowed to vote in any other kind of election, though.

Sure, why not. Most states allowed it throughout the 19th century. 1928 was considered the first year where there was no noncitizens voting across the entire country.

Voting rights for foreigners at the subnational level is actually pretty common around the world.

In any case, I think it is perfectly natural that people should be allowed to have a say in things that affect them.

I actually believe in democracy you see.

Only Mexicans should be allowed. Donald Trump would still claim he could win pretty easily.

For permanent residents, yes. The American government affects them very much as well and they should be able to partake in the system which does so.

While I generally agree with local/non-federal election rights I just wonder at which level "local" ends: all the way up to the legislature/statewide officials or it should be just truly municipal stuff.

What I mean by noncitizens is undocumented immigrants, etc.
