Only retail politics might work at this stage. If they contact 1,500 voters per day (via handshakes, phone calls, hugs, etc) with a success rate of 75%... that’s 2,463,750 new Republican voters in six years if my math is right. Probably enough to just barely eke out a win in CA-GOV 2026 if Newsom leaves office unpopular. It would be an narrow win tho, something like ND-SEN 2012.

A Better strategy is to hope Trump loses in 2020 , and the GOP moves away big time from Trumpism and the Democrats become anti-Big Tech. Once that happens the GOP might have a chance in 2026 if they nominate someone like Steve Faulconer . Even then the state wide GOP will have to be pretty independent from the National GOP

And this only applies to Gubernatorial elections and other statewide races relating to statewide politics , not the Senate races and certainly not the Presidential Race in California .

Most of the previous Republican leadership did every thing possible (and some things impossible) to bring party in the state to the brink of abyss. It's possible to redeem damage, but it can't be done "really soon". So, "possible?" - yes, "likely?" - not especially. It's easier to imagine a "conservative revolt" in couple of years, where ultraconservatives will try to dislodge this party leadership on pretext that "no immediate results are seen"... Still - good luck! One-party dominance is ALWAYS bad, and it doesn't really matters - which party dominance...

Quite simply, this will not help as long as the national Republican party is as extreme, divisive, and noticeable as it currently is.

IIUC, the very idea of Republican party of California Chair is to localize elections in state.....

And also when the democratic party is as close to the California party as one can get: the amount of democrat money, politicians, and votes that comes the the 55 EV behemoth means that the CADems and the USDems are more or less tied at the hip when it comes to broad policy proposals.

Yes. but I'm claiming this is in most cases not going to be possible until national outlook changes.

The only way Republican wins statewide in CA is if they run a celebrity.

I mean it’s a good look but zero substance in this op-Ed, just a bunch of political buzzwords strung together. Voters tend to buy this sort of thing when you’re the out party and don’t have to run on anything but Trump is president so I doubt this schtick will do much until he is out of office.

Better idea, then "to run open socialists", at least...
