A good way to lend credibility to LePage's idea that the "white race" is under threat is by nominating a Muslim woman. This is without a third party challenger, and of course LePage moderates his rhetoric to make him seem like the sane alternative to the extremist Democratic candidate. It works, even in MN as the rural vote (countering the twin cities in MN) mirrors northern Alabama and southern Georgia nationwide.
This is without a strong third party challenger (which would never do as good as standwrand would think) but even with that in many R states much of the non-R vote is to third parties, with few willing to vote for Omar.
