Cuellar would do better than O’Rourke, he would put up big numbers in TX-7 and TX-32, and suburban districts like TX-31 and TX-24, would probably go for Cuellar by high single digits, Cornyn simply cannot come back from being crushed in the suburban districts, and Cuellar’s coattails help Dems pick up several TX seats. Also he might do well among rural moderates, who perceive him as a nominal Democrat/DINO, plus Dems will make it clear they want to oust Cornyn, and Cuellar’s moderate appeal is to much for Cornyn to overcome

Most of the statewide races in TX fell into a pretty narrow range of results, and I don't see this as the kind of race to fall outside of that range. Cuellar is a locally popular (unknown outside his district though) and mostly inoffensive congressman while Cornyn is similarly inoffensive and not that well-known or admired statewide. I guess the particulars of Cuellar's persona and politics might have some marginal effects on where he under and outperformed expectations, but nothing crazy would happen with him on the ticket. He has no interest in the Senate, and I doubt he ever will, but if he ran in 2020 I suspect that he would lose by 5 like many of the Democratic candidates in Texas did last year.

Cuellar has no statewide appeal.

I honestly think it'll be Castro or Hegar.

I do find it funny that the only 2 who think Cuellar would either win or do very well are Republican Posters.

Castro has a problem with his last name, that's in part why he had trouble running for Veep in 2016 and running for prez. Heger is not known either

Beto should consider bid if he drops his prez bid

Trump would generate high D turnout no matter what, which obviously helps Cuellar as well.
