Oh wow, 3 FL GOP reps (Buchanan, Mast, Diaz-Balart) switching sides. Makes sense, but still somewhat surprising.

Wonder if this has any chance at all in the Senate; UBC is one of the few gun control proposals I'm fine with.

Didn't the NRA support universal background checks before Obama became President?

eh thats more long island/staten island. They are pro gun control there because of inner city blacks getting guns but upstate its def the generic GOP gun position. Infact in the assembly Brindisi voted against a lot of gun regulations.

I'm pretty sure Americans would eat their own poo if there was an amendment saying so.

Yes. I am strongly against gun control and this is not a controversial position among Marxists. Why would I be in favour of disarming the populace? Why would I be in favour of background checks, which are done by the state, when I want the workers armed against the state?

Workers should not be armed against workers.

Of course, but handing over gun control to the state will do nothing but disempower the prospect of an armed working class entirely

Completely meaningless. It's never going to pass the Senate, and even if it did, there's no way Trump would sign it. It's an empty gesture; and Democrats have been fond of empty gestures.

So the Dems should do nothing for the next 2 years?

Of course they know it won't pass. It's about putting Republicans on the record and showing the voters (especially those who are going to vote in 2020) what the Democrats Party is going to prioritize.

So go to the public. Instead of holding a vote that means nothing, go to the press and hammer them every single day. Most Americans favour universal background checks. Take the graphs showing that to the media and directly pose the question "Why are you ignoring what the people want?"

Democrats have been taking the high road for too damn long. Getting down in the muck is the only way Republicans are going to be beaten.

And I'm supposed to heed the opinion of who is and is not a socialist from someone who calls themselves a "proud liberal Democrat"? Lol
