Former New York Rep. Vito Fossella (R-Staten Island) wins the 2025 NYC GOP mayoral primary. He faces off against embattled Mayor Ruben Diaz Jr., the first Latino mayor. Crime is ticking up again in the city and Diaz's approval ratings are between 40%-48%.

Fossella makes inroads with black and Latino and Asian voters to make up for a dwindling white ethnic base. Who wins?

Fosella, simply because Diaz is unpopular and he is making inroads with Democrats,

He governs as a conservative and then four years later, NYC throws him out and replaces him with Carolyn Maloney

Yea, Fossella.

I don't think sex scandals matter anymore in politics unless it is very nasty or grotesque (Trump, John Edwards, maybe Eliot Spitzer)

Does the map look like the Giuliani or Bloomberg years?

Fossella or any Republican can win.

A Republican that doesn't have his baggage could as well.

I think Fossella wins a second term in 2029 because New York moderate Democrats and the AOC progressive crowd have intraparty feuds that depress D turnout. Fossella wins Queens, SI, Brooklyn to win reelection.
