I'm pleased to gavel the chamber back into session to consider this piece of legislation, and I thank Mr. Reactionary for going through the Wiki to find the existing law on this matter.

This simple bill will amend Section 2 of the Fast Act to deregulate our roads and enable faster travel by raising the maximum speed limit on highways from 75 to 90 mph. I believe this to be a limit that preserves road safety while enabling faster travel. In this same spirit, speed limits for other non-residential streets, which are sometimes arbitrarily set as low as 40 miles per hour by over burdening state governments, are set to 55 miles per hour.

With lesser limits must come greater enforcement of those limits, and that is why the bill also amends Section 3 to lower the "grace amount" when passing from 10 mph to 5 mph.

I encourage the Chamber to pass this simple and sensible bill.

I think this is a good change. In any case, if road safety is put into concern we can invest in infrastructure and law enforcement patrols for roads and highways so we can minimize the risks.

I would be willing to vote for this provided those provisions were added.

Given the Speaker's concerns, I would like to add this amendment.

Quote
Amend Section 2 to read as follows:

2.) The maximum speed on all State highways shall be 75 90 Miles per Hour.

A) The maximum speed on all county or state roads not classified as highways that are not residential streets shall be 55 miles per hour.

Amend Section 3 to read as follows:

3.) It shall not be considered speeding for a motorist to exceed the posted speed limit while passing another motorist provided the passing motorist:

A) not exceed the posted speed limit by more than 10 5 miles per hour

B) not pass in a dangerously aggressive or reckless manner

C) not pass a school bus, marked police vehicle, or emergency vehicle

And

D) properly signals their intent to change lanes prior to exiting their lane as well as prior to reentering their original lane.

Section 5 shall be repealed:

5.) It shall be unlawful for any State or locality in the Southern Region to utilize red light cameras, unless given an express waiver by the Southern Chamber.

Add new section 5:

5.) The Southern Government shall allocate 3 million dollars for the purchase and installation of 175 speed cameras in high-speed highways and roads.

One thing that might be worth discussing is something that I don't know the name for Tongue but here in sunny SWFL, each traffic light has a light attached that flashes when an ambulance in action is driving through. These usually provide drivers advance warning and allow them to begin getting out of the way.

Something like that could be very useful and should be considered for implementation across the South.

They're called "Emergency Warning Lights".

Such an amendment would be a decent idea, I think.
do you wish to be the one to bring forth the amendment?

I'm more than willing to hear suggestions to improve this.

Just going to point out you keep misnumbering your bills. This bill should be S.19.1.16, not S.18-4.16.
