The Root

The people who would be most impacted by this are those living in high-COL cities and states.

This is just f#cking vengeful.  Shouldn't stand a chance in the House, thankfully.

The Republican party is the cult of Ayn Rand, a group of sociopaths.

The GOP needs to punish all those elitists who left their small towns and betrayed Real America to start new lives in NYC and LA.

They should have done the right thing and stayed home and gotten jobs in coal mines and on wheat farms instead of selling out to the coastal elite.

Lmao probably. I hate TN, can't wait to leave this hellhole of a state whether it be for Colorado, Atlanta, Miami, wherever.

I wonder if Lamar dislikes that people are leaving middle of nowhere TN for somewhere with a future.

Speaking as somebody who does see the hollowing-out of non-megalopolitan America as a genuine tragedy (and a serious indictment of the current phase of American and worldwide capitalism), nakedly punishing young people for leaving Middle America won't do jack-sh**t to help Middle America halt or slow its decline.

I'd like he got up in the morning and asked himself how he could make the world a worse place.

It's self-parody at this point.

This is a stupid idea.

Why don't Republicans find a different way to handle education?

Those days were back when Ike, Dewey, Ford, and good g&$f&*k...Nixon, even f*(king Nixon ran the show.

...also quite a sad state of affairs that this dude is still better than B*(chburn or than that empty suit dog whistler that preceded her.

I can’t believe there was a time when I used to think Alexander might be a half-a-smidge decent Senator.

maybe for dead beats with a job, but certainly not for everybody with a student loan, that's crazy.

That said, we need to stop telling kids it's a good idea to go tens of thousands in debt just to go to college and maybe get a degree.  High School guidance counselors are worse than Hitler.

This is a sad and pathetic pro-corporate anti-citizen proposal.

Canada has - at least partially and in some but not all cases - interest-free student loans. I'd like to see a government program implemented that provides these loans in order to greatly benefit our society, both economically and intellectually.

We need to be promoting and providing high quality education. For our own good and also to compete internationally. The current situation benefits loan companies and discourages Americans from educating themselves beyond high school.

The vast majority of jobs in America do not need the level of higher education (and the cost that comes with it) that is listed on the qualification.  I'm one of the millions of Americans with a college degree whose college major has nothing to do with the job I hold now.  There are millions of folks who got a BA then went back to Community College to get an AS degree and the AS is what they're making their money off of today.

College has become a racket, sad to say.

They take $650 out of my bank account each month, although in my case I signed a paper letting them do that. That's still largely just paying the interesr though.

discourages Americans from educating themselves beyond high school.
the exact opposite acutally.  It encourages many thousands of Americans who have no business in college to take on debt for one or two semesters of college.  The fact that we tell our kids that "college graduates earn more than non-college graduates" (as if the piece of paper is the only thing seperating the two groups) so they better be in that first group or they're a loser is one of the biggest issues facing our youth today.

It's WAY better for that kid that never really liked school to go to a trade school and learn a useful skill in 10 months than it is for them to gamble on college.  Eeasier, more interesting, cheaper and most importantly, they'll have a job when they're done that pays well.

and that's not even considering the sh**tty education many college kids get.  The huge increase in costs havn't been in education, they've been on fancy new buildings and other emeneties that make the experience better, but mostly to extra adminstrators.  None of this makes you smarter or more educated.

I may have threatened to go to Canada in the past, but now since I know a lawyer and can afford to hire him to make it so. If this passes, I would rather pay him than the man. Basically, my situation in the last few years has gone from not being able to afford to expatriate to Canada to not being able to afford NOT to expatriate to Canada.

What are they going to do then? Well, I guess they have started exiling and banishing people, so there's that.
